Alex Kenna is a lawyer, mystery writer, and amateur painter. Before moving to Tacoma, Alex spent ten years as a state and federal prosecutor in Los Angeles, where she prosecuted crimes ranging from murder to international drug smuggling to art forgery. Her debut, WHAT MEETS THE EYE, was a 2023 Shamus Award Finalist for best first P.I. novel. Her widely praised second novel, BURN THIS NIGHT, was released in November 2024. Like most writers, Alexâs path to publication was long and involved a fair share of rejection. To help other aspiring writers, she collected âquery lettersâ that other published writers sent to agents and publishers. From that process, she gained insight into effective strategies for pitching a book. Join Alex as she talks about her latest novel, Burn This Night, her experience in criminal law, and how to talk about your work when submitting it for publication.
