The Anderson is accepting proposals for exhibitions of artwork by VCUarts graduate and undergraduate students for the 2026/2027 academic year. Interested students are invited to attend an info session on February 20th, 1 pm at The Anderson. Follow the links to learn what is required for each form. __________ General Overview: Participating students and faculty are expected to be available for in-person exhibition planning meetings at The Anderson leading up to their exhibition. Each show must have a VCUarts faculty mentor supporting the exhibition through exhibition planning, installation support, and general mentorship as needed. Participating students are responsible for tasks including installation and deinstallation of artwork, creation of promotional materials according to the guidelines set forth by The Anderson, creation of gallery sheets using provided templates, and other tasks required for their specific work to be put on view to the public. Please note that the Anderson is not equipped with an elevator. The Anderson and VCUarts are pleased to present Primordial Birth, a solo exhibition by graduate student kodiCrone (aka Miri Sluis) (Kinetic Imaging). Primordial Birth explores autistic listening as part of an ongoing investigation into the way sound affects visual perception, as well as the presumed dichotomy between Self and Other. The exhibition can be experienced from February 6th – March 4th with an opening reception on February 6th from 5-8 pm. Exhibition Statement: Primordial Birth speaks to human existence as part of a greater planetary whole. Depicting the creation of life as begot from water, light, and sound, the piece aims to deepen awareness of the fragile underpinnings and ecological basis of human life. Referencing Egyptian, Hindu, Abrahamic, occult, and alchemical knowledge, Primordial Birth questions assumptions about the origins, contemporary situation, and future of life on planet Earth. kodiCrone (aka Miri Sluis) creates autistic aurally-led sound and visual installations to explore the influence of sound on the perception of place, including the body and the more-than-human. VCUarts and Capital Square are partnering for the inaugural edition of the Capital Prize, two rounds of juried exhibitions of VCUarts alumni artwork, with prizes totaling $5,000. The collaboration was launched in fall 2025 with a call for entries for the exhibition, which opens to the public March 6. The Capital Prize will provide significant career opportunities for both emerging and established VCUarts Painting + Printmaking alumni artists, while strengthening connections between Capital Square’s residents and Richmond’s vibrant creative community. The exhibitions will be displayed at Chasen, Capital Square’s new 352-unit multifamily apartment community located in the heart of Scott’s Addition—one of Richmond’s fastest growing and most sought-after neighborhoods. The artwork will be displayed throughout two floors of the Chasen building’s gallery space. A public viewing of the Capital Prize round one exhibition will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026 from 5-8 p.m. at Chasen, 2922 W. Marshall St., Richmond, VA 23230. Untitled: The Art of Jaraz Jenkins (dir. Paul Lewis, 40 min.) is a film featuring the Richmond artist and VCUarts painting and printmaking graduate Jaraz Jenkins (B.F.A. ’18), who survived personal tragedy, a life on the street and jail time to build a creative and positive future. The film was produced by Subterracon Films, in association with The Abstract Athlete, a project founded by artist and VCU associate professor Ron Johnson. Screening will be followed by a brief Q&A with the director. About the Director:Paul Lewis is principal and executive producer at Richmond-based Subterracon Films. He has directed and produced five films to date: It Was the Nightingale: The Unreliable Story of Ford Madox Ford  Rosalyn Engelman: The Color of Memory I Am a Story: Self-Portraits at the Warehouse  Kent to Connemara and Untitled: The Art of Jaraz Jenkins. ABOUT NARCISO SOLERO NARCISO SOLERO, pianist, piano teacher, and lecturer in piano pedagogy, is an active master class teacher and lecturer. This past summer, he launched a series for pianist asnd teachers called Level It Up!, a series of 21 videos (and counting!) in which he explores the repertoire of some 22 different composers, organizing their compositions into levels ranging from most accessible to most advanced, plus some other related pedagogical videos. What began for Mr. Solero as a simple project to gauge interest from teachers turned out to be quite successful, with teachers registering for his series from not only the DC area and MidAtlantic, but also across the United States, from Chicago to the West Coast and even Alaska. This season alone, his program has resulted in speaking engagements that include online programs for Utah Music Teachers Association virtual chapter, the Anchorage ( AK) Keyboard Teachers Association, and live workshops for Montgomery County (MD) Music Teachers Association, Richmond (VA) Music Teachers Association, Springfield (VA) Music Club, a senior club in the National Federation of Music Clubs), and 15-episode season of podcasts streamed on multiple platforms. Based in Falls Church, VA, Mr. Solero teaches students from pre-kindergarten through high school,and has a thriving group of adult students as well. His students present four concerts annually, including a concerto concert. His students have earned prizes in MTNA, NVMTA, and VMTA competitions, reached the finals of the National Symphony Young Soloists’ Competition, and attended prestigious summer programs such as Interlochen, Tanglewood, and Brevard. He also works with adults, from beginners to professionals and piano teachers. As a performer, Mr. Solero has appeared at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, Strathmore Mansion, and internationally in Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, and Thailand, including broadcasts on KBS-TV Korea. He has collaborated with artists such as soprano Beverly Rinaldi (CCM), Plácido Domingo, Harolyn Blackwell, and Vanessa Williams. A Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor, Mr. Solero remained fully active as a teacher during treatment and has been in remission since 2017. He continued teaching full-time during intensive chemotherapy to cope with his diagnosis and treatment, and he continues to share how music sustained his resilience and recovery.

The Anderson and VCUarts are pleased to present Between Signal & Spirit, the 2026 BFA Senior Capstone Exhibition for the Kinetic Imaging program. Presented in two rounds, Capstone exhibitions represent the accomplishments of the senior class from each area.
