The Town of Brattleboro and the Vermont Energy Education Program are teaming up to try to provide Brattleboro relief from high electric and heating costs. Come see and learn about how portable solar systems and other energy savings tools like heat pumps and insulation can help make a difference for your family’s budget and comfort. Experts will be on site to explain how these tools work, and how they could work for you in your home. Food and childcare will be available to all who attend the event. Starting this November, Center for Solace (formerly Brattleboro Area Hospice) & Brooks Memorial Libraryare inspired to begin an 8-month collaboration on the first Wednesday of each month, from 6-8 pm. Come join us for a wide range of conversationson tender topics, from Death Cafes, to film & discussion nights,speaker panels, a climate-grief dialogue, and more. Together we’ll explore some of the challenges of being alive in our time.For instance, how might we navigate illness, caregiving, or loss?Or beyond that, face a much broader anguish for our fragile planet itself?Because we know that at least one form of solacestems from staying connected. Strengthen balance and build social connection, all while playing and connecting to your inner child with SilverCircus by the New England Center for Circus Arts (NECCA). These circus classes are designed for older adults and are welcome to all mobility and cognitive levels. We will work with each student where they are at, while fostering a supportive and playful group dynamic. Activities will challenge the brain and the body, and will be scaled up and down to be the perfect challenge for each participant.It is not too late to join the circus! Adding native plants to your yard is easier than you think and may be the most important thing you can do for our troubled ecosystem. Learn the basics about why and how to get started.  Black thumb gardeners welcome! This informational talk is served with a side of enthusiasm and encouragement. ____________ Presenter Bio: Jocelyn Demuth is the owner of Checkerspot Farm, a native plant nursery in Colrain MA (10 minutes from the Vermont Border.)  The nursery grows 160 species of native plants from seed for sale.  She is a speaker for Franklin County Conservation as well as a native plant consultant and landscaper.  She is also the author of the Five Hundred Yard Field Trip, curriculum about native plants for students in grades k-8. This curriculum is available for free on the website www.fivehundredyardfieldtrip.com and has been funded by a grant from the MA Dept of Agriculture.
