Highlights of Tyler North

FOR ADULTS AND TEENS AGES 12-17 A leisurely-paced tour with collection highlights, gardens, and a bit of Tyler history. Discover the beauty of Tyler’s northern collections as you travel from Magnolia Field, through the Native Woodland walk, stop at Lucille’s Garden, and end your journey at the Pollinator Preserve. Along the way, you’ll learn how climate, water management, and the plants themselves all play a role in the collections and the broader ecosystem. About your guide: Since retiring from Penn Dental Medicine, Dr. Woody Kotch reignited his passion for the natural world. Through training at Tyler, the PA Master Naturalist program, the Xerces Society Ambassador Training, and his own research, he developed new tours for Tyler, blending environmental science and history. Woody is dedicated to sharing his excitement for nature and raising awareness about our changing environment. Nature Journaling Single Class: Class 2

FOR ADULTS AGES 18+ Take a deep dive into the natural world. Use nature journaling to observe and record the flora and fauna around you. Engage your inner scientist, writer, and artist as you capture meaningful details. Learn simple tools and techniques for observing, recording, and sketching in a supportive setting at Tyler Arboretum, exploring a new area in each of the four classes. These classes are well-suited for both new and returning participants, offering fresh perspectives, prompts, and discoveries in every session. Registration: Advance registration is required.Classes are subject to cancellation up to 48 hours in advance if minimum enrollment is not met.Class 2 will lead participants through a series of intentional questioning exercises to focus our creative, curious minds on figuring out a mystery that we find in a small corner of Tyler.About the instructor: Meg Lemieur is a nature-focused illustrator based out of Philadelphia, whose mission is to celebrate the diversity, interconnectedness, and amazing feats of the natural world. Her illustrations have been published as tabletop games, in comic anthologies, books, as murals, and large-scale educational tapestries. She lends her skills to a variety of advocacy campaigns and was an Artist in Residence with the Pennsylvania Environmental Council for 2025. Family Explorers

FOR ALL AGES Connect your family with the outdoors on this fun, interactive nature exploration designed to spark curiosity and wonder. Using simple tools like magnifying glasses, you will uncover the Arboretum’s plants, animals, and other seasonal highlights that bring the woodland trails to life. About your guides: Forest Knight is one of Tyler’s Lead Educators. They help run Tyler’s field trips and summer camp programs. They have a love of nature and have worked in the outdoor education field for 4+ years. Barbara Frank is a PA Master Naturalist, a Tyler-trained docent, a yoga teacher, an artist, and a true lover of nature in all of its manifestations. She leads tours for children and adults. PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED This program is best suited for elementary school-aged children accompanied by an adult. Family and siblings of any age are welcome. All children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Check in at the Visitor Center, where you’ll meet your guide. As with any walk at Tyler, sturdy shoes are suggested. PLEASE NOTE: Strollers may not be ideal on some of our trails. We recommend a carrier if you plan to bring an infant or young child. Weather or other factors may adjust the day’s topic, but nature will always shine through! In case of inclement weather, the tour will move indoors.
