The Army Ground Forces Association (AGFA) and the National Park Service invite you to a “1943 Fort Hancock Christmas” at History House. Experience an Officer’s house as it would have looked in 1943. Learn about how soldiers, sergeants, officers and their families celebrated Christmas at Fort Hancock in 1943 during the largest global conflict in history. Hot cider and coffee will be available for visitors with support from the Sandy Hook Foundation. Free.

Visitors can access the interior of the battery and learn about the various systems and components that have been restored to their functional condition. Gun #2 (the northern gun) will be open for visitors to learn how it operates and experience handling the M1900 6-inch seacoast rifle with assistance from AGFA members. Free.

Spiritualism, a belief that departed souls could communicate with the living, exploded in popularity during the late 19th century.  Parlors across America hosted seances lead by mediums who offered a glimpse into the afterlife. Far from a fringe movement, respected figures like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Mary Todd Lincoln, Thomas Edison and Mark Twain made attempts to contact the spirit world.   Join us in the historic Mont Sec house to revisit this unique phenomenon in a period accurate setting. This program will explore many aspects of Spiritualism and mediumship, including how the belief grew from the shadows of the Civil War, the advances in technology and mass media that helped it to spread, and the role that it played in the Suffrage movement. The Army Ground Forces Association (AGFA) and the National Park Service invite you to a “1943 Fort Hancock Christmas” at History House. Experience an Officer’s house as it would have looked in 1943. Learn about how soldiers, sergeants, officers and their families celebrated Christmas at Fort Hancock in 1943 during the largest global conflict in history.
