In early 2025, Planting Fields served as the backdrop for The Diplomat’s season three finale (episode eight). Transformed into a 16th-century English manor loosely inspired by Chequers, the Main House served as the perfect stand-in for the Prime Minister’s country residence. This immersive experience is divided into two parts: History unveiled: Discover the rich story and architecture of the Main House. Hollywood revealed: Go behind the scenes to see how the production team created a convincing cinematic version of Chequers while preserving the character and integrity of this historic estate. Whether you’re a devoted fan of The Diplomat, brand new to the series, or just love Planting Fields, this tour is a must-see. And don’t worry – there are no spoilers…though you may walk out eager to binge the show! LICM was founded in 2020 by husband-and-wife musicians Eric Huckins and Gergana Haralampieva alongside composer Nick DiBerardino with the mission of making professional classical music of the highest caliber accessible to Long Island audiences. LICM performs chamber music at local venues across Long Island including concert halls, parks, libraries, churches, museums, and community centers. LICM works closely with its community partners to create concert programs that are relevant and compelling to audiences. Each concert showcases a variety of instrumentations drawing from LICM’s artist roster of over 20 professional musicians. LICM is strongly committed to programming works and featuring musicians from historically underrepresented communities in the classical music field. LICM provides a variety of highly interactive educational concerts and residencies in schools, libraries, and community centers that focus on fostering a love and understanding of classical music for all ages. LICM musicians are all drawn from Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble Connect, the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Astral Artists, Concert Artist Guild and several other of the country’s most prominent musical institutions. Includes collage workshop. Register Now! Step into a multi-sensory exploration of the fruits that nourish us and the stories they carry. Led by Collections and Exhibitions Manager Emily Leger, this guided tour will depart from the Welcome Pavilion and bring guests to The Planting Fields Stand, 2025 Catalyst artist Sam Van Aken’s grove of four multi-grafted fruit trees. From there, the tour passes through the Main Greenhouse and continues toward the Main House, where additional artworks by Van Aken are on view. Along the way, visitors will learn about Van Aken’s artistic practice and his commitment to preserving rare and heirloom fruit varieties. The tour also explores how food is more than sustenance—it carries memory, tradition, and identity, connecting us to the farmers, landscapes, and communities that have shaped what we eat. Following the tour, guests will have the opportunity to create their own collages using botanical prints and nature imagery, inspired by Van Aken’s grafting practice and related works such as his Tree Tag Grafts. Blending horticulture, history, and contemporary art, this tour invites guests to consider the deeper cultural roots of the fruits we grow and share. More about First FridaysThis monthly series dives into the various themes that make up Planting Fields, with exclusive behind-the-scenes walking tours and workshops led by Planting Fields Foundation and New York State Parks staff, who are experts in their respective fields. From wellness and Olmsted landscape features to the life-stories of Coe family members and their unchallenged spectacular horticultural, historic and personal collections, participants of this series will see this site with a new lens. Each month a new theme is explored with at least one staff expert serving as your guide. This series will take place on the first Friday of each month. Join artist Sam Van Aken, Planting Fields Foundation’s 2025 Catalyst artist, for a hands-on introduction to the art and science of tree grafting. Internationally recognized for his Tree of 40 Fruit project – living sculptures that bear dozens of fruit varieties on a single tree – Van Aken is a contemporary artist and Syracuse University professor whose work has been featured at major museums and public sites across the globe. In this immersive two-hour workshop, participants will explore the rich history and techniques of grafting, learn how Van Aken weaves this centuries-old practice into his artwork, including his recent on-site installation The Planting Fields Stand, and then try it themselves! Each participant will graft their own apple tree to take home and plant, creating a living connection to this unique experience. Capacity is capped at just 20 participants to ensure an intimate learning environment with direct guidance from the artist himself. This rare opportunity to learn alongside an internationally acclaimed artist is design to be personal and hands-on.
