Artistâs Eye Conversation with Jill Hoy & Liz HoyFriday, Dec 5, 2025, 5â6 PMAt the Edward Hopper House Museum, the exhibition "Side by Side" (October 10 to February 15, 2026) celebrates the profound creative bond between two accomplished painters, Jon Imber(1950-2014) and Jill Hoy (b. 1954), whose 23-year marriage became an ongoing artistic dialogue. Like husband and wife Edward Hopper and Josephine Nivison, Imber and Hoy created an artistic partnership where they continually challenged each other to explore color, form, abstraction, and mark-making.This exhibition celebrates the profound artistic dialogue between two accomplished contemporary painters Jon Imber (1950â2014) and Jill Hoy (b. 1954). Like Edward and Josephine Nivison Hopper, Imber and Hoy forged a lifelong creative bond during their marriage. They continually challenged each other, explored color, form, and abstraction painting side-by-side in their studios and outdoors.Their journey began in 1991 when they met in Maine. Hoy was a noted landscape painter from Stonington and New York City, while Imber was an influential figurative painter and teacher based in Boston. Their shared passion for art ignited a romance and a partnership. They found inspiration in the rugged coast and fishing village of Stonington and in Hoyâs exuberant and free-flowing garden, a Giverny-inspired space for plein air painting.The exhibition takes on a poignant dimension as it chronicles their creative dialogue during Imberâs battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Diagnosed in 2013, he continued to paint despite rapid physical deterioration from this motor neuron disease, adapting his technique by using a brush attached to his left hand. and then eventually with both hands held together at his waist.âFor Jon it is about the challenge, the struggle,â Hoy explained. She painted by her husbandâs side, offering unwavering support that inspired him to continue creating, shifting to small format portraits of family and friends, until the end of his life.

The All Ways Writing Circle offers time, space, community, and inspiration to get some writing done. This is for anyone who wants to writeâin any genreâand would benefit from dedicated time. Facilitated by Lily Greenberg, Kelly Jo Lillian, and Kirsten Meehan (among other guest facilitators), participants will be offered a prompt, approximately 45 minutes to write, then a chance to share their work in a warm and supportive group setting. No experience needed, all genres welcome. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Admission is $12.Participants are encouraged to register on Eventbrite.
