Emerging Perspectives is a juried exhibition illuminating the vital and evolving voices of the region’s next generation of artists. This showcase serves as a bridge between the storied traditions of America’s oldest continuously operating art colony and the imaginative inquiries of creators aged 18 to 30. Selected by the RNAC Exhibitions Committee, the exhibition presents a focused collection of work that captures a moment of professional becoming. Spanning a wide range of media, the collection reflects a deep commitment to personal exploration and the pursuit of a distinct visual language. By facilitating a dialogue between these rising artists and the established creative lineage of Gloucester, the Rocky Neck Art Colony continues its 150-year legacy of fostering the future of the arts. Emerging Perspectives is an invitation to witness the initial professional steps of those who will shape our cultural landscape. It offers a rare glimpse into the burgeoning careers of artists as they transition their practice into the public sphere. We invite the community to observe this growth and support the creative spirit that defines our region. The public is invited to celebrate these new perspectives at the Opening Reception on Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 4-6:00pm. Curated by Robin Colodzin The solo exhibition brings together three bodies of work: oil paintings that begin with close observation of the natural world and then depart from the immediate scene, allowing an invented reality to emerge; cave wall paintings that draw on the texture and sensibility of prehistoric cave art, reaching across time toward the earliest forms of human mark-making; and text paintings built from a journaling practice noting ordinary moments of sensory experience, letting the words themselves to become visual marks.

From stick figure doodlers to first-rate talents, join us for a seaside, En Plein Air sketch class with Sue Wheeler of Arts Abound in Magnolia. All skill levels are welcome! This two-hour session includes a 30-minute beginner sketch lesson. All you need to bring is a sketchbook, pencils, a ruler, and an eraser. Please note: watercolors, pastels, oils, or acrylics are not permitted on the Museum grounds. Attendees who wish to tour the Hammond Castle Museum after this class are entitled to a 20% discount on a self-guided tour. Tour tickets may be purchased in the Museum Shop before 2:30 pm on the day of this class. Class Schedule: Thursday Plein Air Sketch classes: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. May:14 June: 11 July 23: (6 – 8 pm) August: 6 September: 10 October: 8 Saturday En Plein Air Sketch classes: 9:30 am- 11:30 am. May: 9 June: 20 July:18 August: 1 September: 5 October: 3 All classes are $25 each. Museum Member savings apply. Weather-dependent; classes may be canceled, and reservations will be refunded if necessary. About Sue Wheeler: Sue has a lifetime of making art through various mediums from delectable pastries to abstracts in pastels, watercolor, and acrylics. She enjoys using her creative flair in quilting and interior design as well. Sue graduated from the University of Denver with a Bachelor’s in business with a focus on hospitality management and earned an associate’s degree from the Culinary Institute of America. Following her tenure as a pastry chef in New Hampshire, Sue returned to school for a certificate in graphic design and put her talents to use as a designer in the book publishing and art publishing industries in Vermont. In early 2019, Sue opened her own gallery and studio, Arts Abound in Magnolia Village, MA, as an artistic haven for local artists. Through the gallery, over 30 artists featured their creative works, ranging from paintings, hand-painted silk scarves, silver jewelry, and more. Sue also ran many workshops and classes featuring many of the artists. Often, Sue would work late into the night, painting in her Arts Abound studio. After closing the gallery in 2022, Sue continued to offer the often sold-out painting classes, taught by some of the Arts Abound artists. Sue has studied under numerous artists to learn watercolor, acrylic painting, cold wax & oil, and collage. Her goals for the Hammond Castle Museum sketch classes are to engage those who are new to the world of art and reinvigorate those who haven’t picked up a blank canvas or sketch pad in a long time. Sue’s philosophy on the creative process encourages you to be less concerned about the final product and instead to enjoy the journey of creativity and get lost in the moment. Once you find yourself in your work, you may just be surprised!

SeniorCare Inc. invites you to its 52nd Annual Meals on Wheels Breakfast Fundraiser, on Friday, May 15, 2026, 7:00 to 9:30 am at The Gloucester House, located at 63 Rogers Street in downtown Gloucester. Tickets are $25 per person, which includes a delicious buffet breakfast. Tickets may be purchased online or at the door, and sponsorship opportunities are available at several levels. All proceeds support SeniorCare’s Meals on Wheels/Nutrition program. Each weekday, SeniorCare’s Meals on Wheels program delivers nutritious, professionally prepared meals to more than 700 homebound older adults across the North Shore. That’s over 200,000 meals each year, served at private homes and at community dining sites in Beverly, Gloucester, Essex, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Rockport, Ipswich, Hamilton, Topsfield, and Wenham. Beyond a healthy meal, each delivery provides a friendly visit—often the only face-to-face contact a senior may have that day. The Greater Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce Business Education and Scholarship Golf Tournament, an annual fundraising event to support the Chamber's education mission, is scheduled for Monday, May 18th at Bass Rocks Golf Club. The net proceeds of this event fund the Chamber's extensive work with the five Greater Cape Ann high schools, Essex Tech and education non-profits. Our Business Education programming includes: monthly collaboration with all schools and education non-profits, DECA support, intern and mentorships, Career & Collage Fairs and several scholarships. In addition to the Greater Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce Scholarship, the Chamber awards five scholarships named in honor of past leaders: Mike Costello, Sylvester (Red) Deering, Rudy Macchi, Patricia Roy D'Alelio and William (Bill) Scott. The Scholarship Winners will be presented their awards during the Post-Tournament Awards Banquet.
