When a concerned mother finds her son with an “inappropriate” book, an attempt to reason with the local librarian erupts into an explosive, town-wide confrontation. As tensions rise and consequences escalate, we learn that these women have more that connects them than what meets the eye. Bad Books explores the first impressions and raucous debates that divide us while forcing audiences to consider what it really means to care for our children.  Sharyn Rothstein’s poignant drama opens the 2026 Season with cunning humor and heartfelt dialogue in this regional-premiere directed by M. Bevin O’Garaº. Running from June 4 to 27, all performances are at the Natti-Willsky Performance Center – 267 East Main Street, Gloucester. Showtimes are Wednesdays – Saturdays at 7:30pm, with matinees Saturdays & Sunday at 2:00pm.

From stick figure doodlers to first-rate talents, join us for a seaside, En Plein Air sketch class with Sue Wheeler of Arts Abound in Magnolia. All skill levels are welcome! This two-hour session includes a 30-minute beginner sketch lesson. All you need to bring is a sketchbook, pencils, a ruler, and an eraser. Please note: watercolors, pastels, oils, or acrylics are not permitted on the Museum grounds. Attendees who wish to tour the Hammond Castle Museum after this class are entitled to a 20% discount on a self-guided tour. Tour tickets may be purchased in the Museum Shop before 2:30 pm on the day of this class. Class Schedule: Thursday Plein Air Sketch classes: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. May:14 June: 11 July 23: (6 – 8 pm) August: 6 September: 10 October: 8 Saturday En Plein Air Sketch classes: 9:30 am- 11:30 am. About Sue Wheeler: Sue has a lifetime of making art through various mediums from delectable pastries to abstracts in pastels, watercolor, and acrylics. She enjoys using her creative flair in quilting and interior design as well. Sue graduated from the University of Denver with a Bachelor’s in business with a focus on hospitality management and earned an associate’s degree from the Culinary Institute of America. Following her tenure as a pastry chef in New Hampshire, Sue returned to school for a certificate in graphic design and put her talents to use as a designer in the book publishing and art publishing industries in Vermont. In early 2019, Sue opened her own gallery and studio, Arts Abound in Magnolia Village, MA, as an artistic haven for local artists. Through the gallery, over 30 artists featured their creative works, ranging from paintings, hand-painted silk scarves, silver jewelry, and more. Sue also ran many workshops and classes featuring many of the artists. Often, Sue would work late into the night, painting in her Arts Abound studio. After closing the gallery in 2022, Sue continued to offer the often sold-out painting classes, taught by some of the Arts Abound artists. Sue has studied under numerous artists to learn watercolor, acrylic painting, cold wax & oil, and collage. Her goals for the Hammond Castle Museum sketch classes are to engage those who are new to the world of art and reinvigorate those who haven’t picked up a blank canvas or sketch pad in a long time. Sue’s philosophy on the creative process encourages you to be less concerned about the final product and instead to enjoy the journey of creativity and get lost in the moment. Once you find yourself in your work, you may just be surprised!

Gloucester Small Business Person of the Year Reception 2026 Tobin Dominick, Owner of Cape Ann Marina, is the Winner of the 'Small Business Person of the Year' from Gloucester. Join The Chamber in celebrating her win at Mile Marker One Restaurant at the Cape Ann Marina. Tobin's Bio: Tobin Dominick is an owner-operator, community builder, and steward of small business on Cape Ann. Alongside her brother Drew, she has led their family businesses, Cape Ann Marina and Mile Marker One Restaurant, growing it into a year-round destination encompassing hospitality, marine services, and waterfront experiences.   Under her leadership, the business has continually evolved—renovating and modernizing the property, launching Mile Marker One, expanding marine services, and developing workforce pathways through technician training and apprenticeship programs. She has helped launch and grown signature community events, including the Bluefin Blowout and the Annual Boat Parade of Lights. When called upon by fellow community folks, Cape Ann Marina consistently steps up to support local initiatives through fundraising, collaboration, and in-kind contributions.   An advocate for accessible and sustainable boating, Tobin is committed to stewarding clean, working waters that sustain both commercial and recreational boaters. Beyond her business, she is a founding partner and Chair of Discover Gloucester and a tireless advocate for the region as a vibrant, year-round destination.   A former two-sport Division I athlete at Boston College, Tobin also works as a fitness professional and health/life coach. She is driven by connection with people, and the belief that small businesses are the backbone of thriving communities.

Join GMGI in partnership with Ocean Alliance to understand more about the secrets whale blow can tell us about the ocean. Whales are considered sentinel species — their health offers an early warning about the condition of ocean ecosystems. Yet today, one in four cetacean species is vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered. Join Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute (GMGI) to learn about its eight-year collaboration with Ocean Alliance (OA), a Gloucester-based nonprofit pioneering drone technology for marine mammal science. Together, GMGI and OA are using whale exhalant, or blow, collected with SnotBot®, an aptly-named drone used for noninvasive sample collection, to study whale respiratory microbiomes across multiple species and oceans. This research is building the foundation needed to track changes in the health status of whales and their ocean ecosystem over time.

In this richly illustrated talk, Jana will explore the estates and landscapes created for families such as the Vanderbilts, Rockefellers – and the Cranes – alongside the visionary architects and designers who brought their grandeur to life. Castle Hill is one of thirty gardens profiled in the book. The lecture will take place in the Great House and doors will open at 5:30 pm. Just music designed to help you slow down, breathe, and settle into stillness. Steve Lacey is a professional musician and educator based in Gloucester, MA. He studied Tibetan singing bowls with Katherine Hamer, founder of Singing Bowl & Sound Institute of New York in 2021 and has been offering private and group sound bath sessions in Gloucester as well as accompanying restorative yoga classes at Treetop Yoga and other studios in the north shore area.

The three-class series offers a 30-minute beginner sketch lesson with an hour and a half of independent sketching time. All you need to bring is a sketchbook, pencils, a ruler, and an eraser. Please note: watercolors, pastels, oils, or acrylics are not permitted on the Museum grounds. Attendees who wish to tour the Hammond Castle Museum after any of the classes class are entitled to a 20% discount on a self-guided tour. Tour tickets may be purchased in the Museum Shop before 2:30 pm on the day of this class. Fridays Summer Sketch Series En Plein Air classes: 9:30 am- 11:30 am. Museum Member savings apply.   About Sue Wheeler: Sue has a lifetime of making art through various mediums from delectable pastries to abstracts in pastels, watercolor, and acrylics. She enjoys using her creative flair in quilting and interior design as well.   Sue graduated from the University of Denver with a Bachelor’s in business with a focus on hospitality management and earned an associate’s degree from the Culinary Institute of America. Following her tenure as a pastry chef in New Hampshire, Sue returned to school for a certificate in graphic design and put her talents to use as a designer in the book publishing and art publishing industries in Vermont. In early 2019, Sue opened her own gallery and studio, Arts Abound in Magnolia Village, MA, as an artistic haven for local artists. Through the gallery, over 30 artists featured their creative works, ranging from paintings, hand-painted silk scarves, silver jewelry, and more. Sue also ran many workshops and classes featuring many of the artists. Often, Sue would work late into the night, painting in her Arts Abound studio. After closing the gallery in 2022, Sue continued to offer the often sold-out painting classes, taught by some of the Arts Abound artists.   Sue has studied under numerous artists to learn watercolor, acrylic painting, cold wax & oil, and collage. Her goals for the Hammond Castle Museum sketch classes are to engage those who are new to the world of art and reinvigorate those who haven’t picked up a blank canvas or sketch pad in a long time. Sue’s philosophy on the creative process encourages you to be less concerned about the final product and instead to enjoy the journey of creativity and get lost in the moment. "The Battle of Gloucester, though frequently eclipsed by more significant engagements, had profound and lasting implications. It exposed the weaknesses in British naval operations near the coast, bolstered local determination, and set in motion the development of a naval force poised to eventually contest British dominance at sea."  Getting there Travel   Although Cape Ann is off the beaten path, it is easy to get to through myriad means of transportation. By Car From I-95, take the Yankee Division Highway straight into the heart of Gloucester Commuter Rail The Newburyport/Rockport line offers easy access to downtown Gloucester—and is only 1.3 miles from Stage Fort Park. Brendan Evans presents a program of guitar music centered around works by Augustin Barrios and Manuel Ponce - a set of waltzes full of virtuosic and melodious springtime energy, followed by an extended meditation on the medieval musical schema La Folia. Join Cape Ann Guitar Society in the beautiful St. Anthony's by the Sea for an evening recital by founder Brendan Evans. Classical guitarist Brendan Evans has performed, taught, and won awards throughout North America and around the world. His debut album, Tiento, was released in January of 2026 on Green Flash Records. A Rockport, Massachusetts native, Brendan performs and teaches locally and internationally, is the founder of Cape Ann Guitar Society, and enjoys playing in various groups, including the original project Nightowls. Brendan holds a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in classical guitar performance from the Oberlin and San Francisco Conservatories. While pursuing his undergraduate degree Brendan spent a year studying flamenco guitar in the cities of Granada and Cordoba, Spain. Cape Ann Guitar Society is dedicated to building and nurturing a community of listening and learning through guitar related concerts, workshops, and meetups. As a maritime center, Cape Ann’s culture is inherently diverse, and we seek out, represent, and learn from that diversity through the guitar. The Guitar Society amplifies local voices and brings visiting artists and teachers to Cape Ann, connecting our local communities with the global guitar family - music as cultural diplomacy. We seek to expand the repertoire through commissioning projects and collaborate with other local arts and historical organizations. Consecrated in 1925, St. Anthony’s by the Sea is a fieldstone church constructed in the English parish gothic style, and is a member of Gloucester’s Holy Family Parish.

When a concerned mother finds her son with an “inappropriate” book, an attempt to reason with the local librarian erupts into an explosive, town-wide confrontation. As tensions rise and consequences escalate, we learn that these women have more that connects them than what meets the eye. Bad Books explores the first impressions and raucous debates that divide us while forcing audiences to consider what it really means to care for our children.  Sharyn Rothstein’s poignant drama opens the 2026 Season with cunning humor and heartfelt dialogue in this regional-premiere directed by M. Bevin O’Garaº. Running from June 4 to 27, all performances are at the Natti-Willsky Performance Center – 267 East Main Street, Gloucester. Showtimes are Wednesdays – Saturdays at 7:30pm, with matinees Saturdays & Sunday at 2:00pm.
