The current exhibit of 42 panels, rescued from the closing Phillips Screw factory in Stoughton, tells the story of a Falmouth boy leaving home to spend 4 years on a round-the-world whaling expedition. Painted in 1944 by Falmouth artist Lloyd Turner Nightingale, the panels trace the voyage of the whaler A. R. Turner as the crew chases whales across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, from the North Pole to the South Pole, from 1850 to 1854. You'll see the Katherine Lee Bates House and the Congregational Church on the Green as the sailor departs, and the ports visited around the world as they hunted for whales. Artist Karen Rinaldo said the exhibit was made possible by a phone call from Falmouth resident Brian Snow to pick up the display that had spent 75 years in the break room of his family's factory. Local builder Mike Duffany answered Karen's request to take down the 4x8-foot panels. New Wave Printing reduced them to the panels on display. The sale will be open to the public on December 3 between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and December 4 through 6 from10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (A members-only preview sale for members of the Friends of the Falmouth Public Library will take place on Wednesday, December 3 from 10 AM to 5 PM. Memberships to the friends group can be purchased at the door.) For sale will be high-quality used books suitable for gifting. Among the categories to be offered will be children’s books, gardening, cookbooks, recent fiction, history, science, art and music, along with CDs, DVDs, games and puzzles. There will also be a table of collectible books. Chilly early release day? Come visit the Falmouth Public Library’s Main Branch for a HUGE truck filled with video games for all ages. On Tuesday, December 9th from 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM, get ready for a full blown multi-player experience, the game truck's theater has 5 gaming stations on the inside that support up to 20 players with space available for 10 additional friends to watch the fun on our stadium seating.  There is no registration required to come play and access is 100% free. The Gaming Truck will be parked in the library’s side parking lot on Shore Street Extension. The truck will be open from 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM. If you can't find the truck, just come in to the library and ask! We'll point you in the right direction. All ages welcome! We kindly ask that if the patron is under 10, an adult accompany them. The truck will be here rain or shine! So don't let a few drops of water stop you! This is the Gamin' Truck's 3rd appearance at FPL! Ready to unwind? Our meditation class has moved to the evening, so you can breathe easy as the sun sets! In this class, participants will practice loving-kindness meditation, which involves directing positive intentions and goodwill towards oneself and others. This practice aims to cultivate compassion, empathy, and love, fostering emotional well-being and healthier relationships. This class will also include Insight meditation, also known as Vipassana or mindfulness meditation. This technique involves observing thoughts, sensations, and experiences with non-judgmental awareness. Its objective is to develop profound insight into the nature of existence, fostering mindfulness, clarity, and a deeper understanding of oneself and reality. Class Structure: • 10 minutes: Loving-Kindness Meditation techniques to cultivate compassion and empathy. • 40 minutes: Insight Meditation, incorporating mindful prostration, walking, and sitting practices. After the session, participants will have the opportunity for individual interviews—either in a group setting or one-on-one. These 10-minute discussions are intended to ensure proper practice techniques and provide personalized guidance for a deeper understanding of the meditation process. Target Audience: This class is designed for participants of all levels, from beginners to experienced meditators. It offers a blend of loving-kindness meditation, mindfulness practice, and shared experiences through personal reflection. Consider it a workout for the mind, open to anyone seeking greater self-awareness and personal growth. About the instructor: Benny is an instructor from the NMR Buddhist Meditation Center in Raynham, MA. Benny is an advanced mindfulness teacher with a profound understanding of the art and science of mindfulness. The current exhibit of 42 panels, rescued from the closing Phillips Screw factory in Stoughton, tells the story of a Falmouth boy leaving home to spend 4 years on a round-the-world whaling expedition. Painted in 1944 by Falmouth artist Lloyd Turner Nightingale, the p......More

The current exhibit of 42 panels, rescued from the closing Phillips Screw factory in Stoughton, tells the story of a Falmouth boy leaving home to spend 4 years on a round-the-world whaling expedition. Painted in 1944 by Falmouth artist Lloyd Turner Nightingale, the panels trace the voyage of the whaler A. R. Turner as the crew chases whales across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, from the North Pole to the South Pole, from 1850 to 1854. You'll see the Katherine Lee Bates House and the Congregational Church on the Green as the sailor departs, and the ports visited around the world as they hunted for whales. Artist Karen Rinaldo said the exhibit was made possible by a phone call from Falmouth resident Brian Snow to pick up the display that had spent 75 years in the break room of his family's factory. Local builder Mike Duffany answered Karen's request to take down the 4x8-foot panels. New Wave Printing reduced them to the panels on display. Naturalization records can provide a researcher with valuable information such as an ancestor’s birth date, birth location in the country of origin, occupation, immigration year, marital status, spouse information, and witnesses’ names and addresses. Naturalization and the individual steps to citizenship could be done at any “court of record” of which there were 5,000 in the United States. This talk is free and open to the public. The current exhibit of 42 panels, rescued from the closing Phillips Screw factory in Stoughton, tells the story of a Falmouth boy leaving home to spend 4 years on a round-the-world whaling expedition. Painted in 1944 by Falmouth artist Lloyd Turner Nightingale, the panels trace the voyage of the whaler A. R. Turner as the crew chases whales across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, from the North Pole to the South Pole, from 1850 to 1854. You'll see the Katherine Lee Bates House and the Congregational Church on the Green as the sailor departs, and the ports visited around the world as they hunted for whales. Artist Karen Rinaldo said the exhibit was made possible by a phone call from Falmouth resident Brian Snow to pick up the display that had spent 75 years in the break room of his family's factory. Local builder Mike Duffany answered Karen's request to take down the 4x8-foot panels. New Wave Printing reduced them to the panels on display. Former Falmouth Library Director Linda Collins took possession of them, and current Director Brian Stokes invites all to visit the exhibit from November 1st through December along the art walk in the Adult Collections Room during library hours. https://falmouthpubliclibrary.assabetinteractive.com/calendar/whaling-panel-display-42/
