Encounter the Complexities of Human Relationships, Memory and Identity, in Double Portraits, A Layered and Multifaceted Portrait of the American South Discover the diverse ways artists depict human connection, presence, and absence within a shared frame, at Double Portraits, an original photography exhibition on view at the Vero Beach Museum of Art (VBMA) October 25, 2025, through January 11, 2026. This exhibition features 47 photographs by 34 artists, each capturing the rich and ever-evolving American South through the concept of a “double portrait.” The exhibition was curated by VBMA Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell and organized by the Vero Beach Museum of Art, with photographs on loan from the Collection of the Do Good Fund, Columbus, Georgia. “In a time when countless images flood our screens each day, Double Portraits invites viewers to slow down and consider what photography can reveal when created with intention and a distinct point of view,” shares VBMA Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell. “The exhibition features portraits of individuals from the Florida Everglades to Mississippi highways to Atlanta suburbs—taken by artists ranging from emerging talents to Guggenheim fellows.” Divided into four thematic sections, the works demonstrate the many ways photography captures the complexities of human relationships, memory, and identity—offering a layered and multifaceted portrait of the American South. The first section explores traditional portraiture, showcasing photographs like Rineke Dijkstra’s, in which subjects are centrally framed, fully visible, and clearly identifiable as individuals. From here, the exhibition transitions to artists who incorporate vernacular photographic styles, often embracing a “snapshot aesthetic” to depict two people together in often casual or spontaneous moments. This approach highlights photography’s power to convey intimacy and emotional resonance. The third section explores the themes of connection and care. A portrait featuring two people naturally suggests a story, as the viewer instinctively looks for meaning in their interaction. Even without knowing the subjects, subtle details—like a glance or a touch—convey a shared moment, offering deeper insight into the image’s significance. This annual event, now in its sixth year, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at The Plaza, 884 17th St., Vero Beach, just down the street from the community studio. The sale has moved to a larger space to accommodate Indian River Clay and The Mudroom members; and will last one hour longer. The public is invited to meet all of the artists and browse the pop-up sale, featuring the work of more than 22 ceramic artists. It will be the perfect place to pick up one-of-a-kind gifts for the holidays and all special occasions.  The public also will have the opportunity to buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win a piece of pottery. Encounter the Complexities of Human Relationships, Memory and Identity, in Double Portraits, A Layered and Multifaceted Portrait of the American South Discover the diverse ways artists depict human connection, presence, and absence within a shared frame, at Double Portraits, an original photography exhibition on view at the Vero Beach Museum of Art (VBMA) October 25, 2025, through January 11, 2026. This exhibition features 47 photographs by 34 artists, each capturing the rich and ever-evolving American South through the concept of a “double portrait.” The exhibition was curated by VBMA Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell and organized by the Vero Beach Museum of Art, with photographs on loan from the Collection of the Do Good Fund, Columbus, Georgia. “In a time when countless images flood our screens each day, Double Portraits invites viewers to slow down and consider what photography can reveal when created with intention and a distinct point of view,” shares VBMA Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell. “The exhibition features portraits of individuals from the Florida Everglades to Mississippi highways to Atlanta suburbs—taken by artists ranging from emerging talents to Guggenheim fellows.” Divided into four thematic sections, the works demonstrate the many ways photography captures the complexities of human relationships, memory, and identity—offering a layered and multifaceted portrait of the American South. The first section explores traditional portraiture, showcasing photographs like Rineke Dijkstra’s, in which subjects are centrally framed, fully visible, and clearly identifiable as individuals. From here, the exhibition transitions to artists who incorporate vernacular photographic styles, often embracing a “snapshot aesthetic” to depict two people together in often casual or spontaneous moments. This approach highlights photography’s power to convey intimacy and emotional resonance. The third section explores the themes of connection and care. A portrait featuring two people naturally suggests a story, as the viewer instinctively looks for meaning in their interaction. Even without knowing the subjects, subtle details—like a glance or a touch—convey a shared moment, offering deeper insight into the image’s significance. The final section redefines the concept of the double portrait by showcasing unconventional examples. Figures may be reflected in mirrors, seen in photographs that appear within other photographs, or represented through fragmented or partially obscured depictions. These images challenge traditional portraiture, emphasizing presence through suggestion rather than direct depiction. This exhibition features 47 photographs by 34 artists, each capturing the rich and ever-evolving American South through the concept of a “double portrait.” The exhibition was curated by VBMA Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell and organized by the Vero Beach Museum of Art, with photographs on loan from the Collection of the Do Good Fund, Columbus, Georgia. “In a time when countless images flood our screens each day, Double Portraits invites viewers to slow down and consider what photography can reveal when created with intention and a distinct point of view,” shares VBMA Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell. “The exhibition features portraits of individuals from the Florida Everglades to Mississippi highways to Atlanta suburbs—taken by artists ranging from emerging talents to Guggenheim fellows.” Divided into four thematic sections, the works demonstrate the many ways photography captures the complexities of human relationships, memory, and identity—offering a layered and multifaceted portrait of the American South. The first section explores traditional portraiture, showcasing photographs like Rineke Dijkstra’s, in which subjects are centrally framed, fully visible, and clearly identifiable as individuals. From here, the exhibition transitions to artists who incorporate vernacular photographic styles, often embracing a “snapshot aesthetic” to depict two people together in often casual or spontaneous moments. This approach highlights photography’s power to convey intimacy and emotional resonance. The third section explores the themes of connection and care. A portrait featuring two people naturally suggests a story, as the viewer instinctively looks for meaning in their interaction. Even without knowing the subjects, subtle details—like a glance or a touch—convey a shared moment, offering deeper insight into the image’s significance. The final section redefines the concept of the double portrait by showcasing unconventional examples. Figures may be reflected in mirrors, seen in photographs that appear within other photographs, or represented through fragmented or partially obscured depictions. These images challenge traditional portraiture, emphasizing presence through suggestion rather than direct depiction. The very best way to start the holiday season is with a White Christmas…a Peter White Christmas. The legendary guitarist returns to Stuart to usher in the holidays with saxophonist extraordinaire Mindi Abair and multi-instrumentalist Vincent Ingala. For contemporary jazz lovers and lovers of Christmas, it doesn’t get any better than this. Peter White, who co-wrote the song “Time Passages" and played on Al Stewart’s Top 10 album, The Year of the Cat, has always loved Christmas. He grew up in Luton, near London, and remembers fun and family. “My earliest memories of Christmas were probably not much different from many other people: snowflakes, tinsel, Santa Claus, reindeer, and the opening of presents, surrounded by family,” he said. “As a child, my father taught me to play Christmas music on my first instrument, the recorder, and my love for Christmas music has endured throughout the years. I hope this tour will be an opportunity for many smooth jazz fans to enjoy their favorite Christmas songs in a family setting. You know, I might even bring my recorder!” White’s 17th album, Light of Day, is scheduled for release this year. Florida native Mindi Abair is a self-proclaimed “Christmas dork.” “Growing up, my family would get together for Christmas every year,” she said. “My grandmother would cook oyster stuffing and rhubarb pie, and we’d play and sing together. I still make rhubarb pie every year in her honor. My grandmother gave me great advice early on: “If you play the piano, you can be the life of any party!” She was an opera singer and would sit and play piano and sing Christmas songs. My father would take over and play more rock/blues/jazz versions of the songs and we’d all sing. Of course, I’d pull out my sax and play along. What an amazing way to grow up, with music surrounding me and weaving into my life so seamlessly.” Abair has taken her love for Christmas to a new level, with her latest release, 2024’s I Can’t Wait for Christmas, a 10-song collection on Pretty Good for a Girl Records of holiday classics that take listeners straight to the heart of the holiday season, blending timeless classics with fresh, soulful originality. Vincent Ingala brings his matinee idol looks and incredible talent to the party. He has already been at the top of the Billboard Contemporary Jazz charts and is a wizard instrumentally, playing everything from tenor sax to piano, drums, guitar, bass and vocals. Encounter the Complexities of Human Relationships, Memory and Identity, in Double Portraits, A Layered and Multifaceted Portrait of the American South Discover the diverse ways artists depict human connection, presence, and absence within a shared frame, at Double Portraits, an original photography exhibition on view at the Vero Beach Museum of Art (VBMA) October 25, 2025, through January 11, 2026. This exhibition features 47 photographs by 34 artists, each capturing the rich and ever-evolving American South through the concept of a “double portrait.” The exhibition was curated by VBMA Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell and organized by the Vero Beach Museum of Art, with photographs on loan from the Collection of the Do Good Fund, Columbus, Georgia. “In a time when countless images flood our screens each day, Double Portraits invites viewers to slow down and consider what photography can reveal when created with intention and a distinct point of view,” shares VBMA Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell. “The exhibition features portraits of individuals from the Florida Everglades to Mississippi highways to Atlanta suburbs—taken by artists ranging from emerging talents to Guggenheim fellows.” Divided into four thematic sections, the works demonstrate the many ways photography captures the complexities of human relationships, memory, and identity—offering a layered and multifaceted portrait of the American South. The first section explores traditional portraiture, showcasing photographs like Rineke Dijkstra’s, in which subjects are centrally framed, fully visible, and clearly identifiable as individuals. Nutcracker on the Indian River has become a local holiday tradition, and we are thrilled to announce a move to Riverside Theatre this season. The production retains all the whimsy and magic of the original ballet but moves the action to the year Vero was founded (1919). Taking the ballet’s heroine, Marie, on a holiday journey from New York to Florida, Fifth Avenue Mansions, Grand Central Station, and rail cars become settings. Instead of a second act featuring candy characters, Marie dreams of the shores of the Indian River Lagoon and is entertained by all manner of local flora and fauna. Encounter the Complexities of Human Relationships, Memory and Identity, in Double Portraits, A Layered and Multifaceted Portrait of the American South Discover the diverse ways artists depict human connection, presence, and absence within a shared frame, at Double Portraits, an original photography exhibition on view at the Vero Beach Museum of Art (VBMA) October 25, 2025, through January 11, 2026. This exhibition features 47 photographs by 34 artists, each capturing the rich and ever-evolving American South through the concept of a “double portrait.” The exhibition was curated by VBMA Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell and organized by the Vero Beach Museum of Art, with photographs on loan from the Collection of the Do Good Fund, Columbus, Georgia. “In a time when countless images flood our screens each day, Double Portraits invites viewers to slow down and consider what photography can reveal when created with intention and a distinct point of view,” shares VBMA Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell. “The exhibition features portraits of individuals from the Florida Everglades to Mississippi highways to Atlanta suburbs—taken by artists ranging from emerging talents to Guggenheim fellows.” Divided into four thematic sections, the works demonstrate the many ways photography captures the complexities of human relationships, memory, and identity—offering a layered and multifaceted portrait of the American South. The first section explores traditional portraiture, showcasing photographs like Rineke Dijkstra’s, in which subjects are centrally framed, fully visible, and clearly identifiable as individuals. From here, the exhibition transitions to artists who incorporate vernacular photographic styles, often embracing a “snapshot aesthetic” to depict two people together in often casual or spontaneous moments. This approach highlights photography’s power to convey intimacy and emotional resonance. The third section explores the themes of connection and care. A portrait featuring two people naturally suggests a story, as the viewer instinctively looks for meaning in their interaction. Even without knowing the subjects, subtle details—like a glance or a touch—convey a shared moment, offering deeper insight into the image’s significance. The final section redefines the concept of the double portrait by showcasing unconventional examples. Figures may be reflected in mirrors, seen in photographs that appear within other photographs, or represented through fragmented or partially obscured depictions. These images challenge traditional portraiture, emphasizing presence through suggestion rather than direct depiction. Encounter the Complexities of Human Relationships, Memory and Identity, in Double Portraits, A Layered and Multifaceted Portrait of the American South Discover the diverse ways artists depict human connection, presence, and absence within a shared frame, at Double Portraits, an original photography exhibition on view at the Vero Beach Museum of Art (VBMA) October 25, 2025, through January 11, 2026. This exhibition features 47 photographs by 34 artists, each capturing the rich and ever-evolving American South through the concept of a “double portrait.” The exhibition was curated by VBMA Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell and organized by the Vero Beach Museum of Art, with photographs on loan from the Collection of the Do Good Fund, Columbus, Georgia. “In a time when countless images flood our screens each day, Double Portraits invites viewers to slow down and consider what photography can reveal when created with intention and a distinct point of view,” shares VBMA Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell. “The exhibition features portraits of individuals from the Florida Everglades to Mississippi highways to Atlanta suburbs—taken by artists ranging from emerging talents to Guggenheim fellows.” Divided into four thematic sections, the works demonstrate the many ways photography captures the complexities of human relationships, memory, and identity—offering a layered and multifaceted portrait of the American South. The first section explores traditional portraiture, showcasing photographs like Rineke Dijkstra’s, in which subjects are centrally framed, fully visible, and clearly identifiable as individuals. From here, the exhibition transitions to artists who incorporate vernacular photographic styles, often embracing a “snapshot aesthetic” to depict two people together in often casual or spontaneous moments. This approach highlights photography’s power to convey intimacy and emotional resonance. The third section explores the themes of connection and care. A portrait featuring two people naturally suggests a story, as the viewer instinctively looks for meaning in their interaction. Even without knowing the subjects, subtle details—like a glance or a touch—convey a shared moment, offering deeper insight into the image’s significance. The final section redefines the concept of the double portrait by showcasing unconventional examples. Figures may be reflected in mirrors, seen in photographs that appear within other photographs, or represented through fragmented or partially obscured depictions. These images challenge traditional portraiture, emphasizing presence through suggestion rather than direct depiction. This exhibition features 47 photographs by 34 artists, each capturing the rich and ever-evolving American South through the concept of a “double portrait.” The exhibition was curated by VBMA Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell and organized by the Vero Beach Museum of Art, with photographs on loan from the Collection of the Do Good Fund, Columbus, Georgia. “In a time when countless images flood our screens each day, Double Portraits invites viewers to slow down and consider what photography can reveal when created with intention and a distinct point of view,” shares VBMA Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell. “The exhibition features portraits of individuals from the Florida Everglades to Mississippi highways to Atlanta suburbs—taken by artists ranging from emerging talents to Guggenheim fellows.” Divided into four thematic sections, the works demonstrate the many ways photography captures the complexities of human relationships, memory, and identity—offering a layered and multifaceted portrait of the American South. The first section explores traditional portraiture, showcasing photographs like Rineke Dijkstra’s, in which subjects are centrally framed, fully visible, and clearly identifiable as individuals. From here, the exhibition transitions to artists who incorporate vernacular photographic styles, often embracing a “snapshot aesthetic” to depict two people together in often casual or spontaneous moments. This approach highlights photography’s power to convey intimacy and emotional resonance. The third section explores the themes of connection and care. A portrait featuring two people naturally suggests a story, as the viewer instinctively looks for meaning in their interaction. Even without knowing the subjects, subtle details—like a glance or a touch—convey a shared moment, offering deeper insight into the image’s significance. The final section redefines the concept of the double portrait by showcasing unconventional examples. Figures may be reflected in mirrors, seen in photographs that appear within other photographs, or represented through fragmented or partially obscured depictions. These images challenge traditional portraiture, emphasizing presence through suggestion rather than direct depiction.
