Sarah Nep is one of a handful of professional cheese carvers in the US. With 39 years of experience — creating art for festivals, fairs, trade shows, grand openings, weddings, corporate and winery events -- Sarah has demonstrated her skill in almost every state in the US: including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. Sarah fell into cheese carving when her specialty food aficionado husband, Howard, “volunteered” her services to carve a cow out of a 40 lb block of raw milk cheddar for the California Cheese and Butter Show. Sarah then won the West Coast Regional Cheese Carving Championship hosted by the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, and has been featured in magazines such as Diablo, Walnut Creek, and Culture, The People’s Magazine (UK) and made numerous TV appearances. Sarah regularly carves at state and county fairs, corporate events, country clubs, weddings, winery events, grocery store grand openings and trade shows.  For this event, Sarah will show slides of her work, share how she got started in cheese, tell stories of her cheese adventures, and demonstrate how to carve cheese on a small block of cheese. Sarah will also shares cheese tips, like handling and freezing cheese, entertaining with cheese, and exploring creativity through this unique medium of cheese. Sarah and her husband, Howard, will share cheese bites at the end of the event.  This program is for adults and teens only. Registration required. To request special accommodations, please give the library 72 hours notice. This event was made possible with the generous support of Friends of El Sobrante Library.
