Bronx Westchester Christmas Bird Count from Saw Mill River Audubon
The Christmas Bird Count is a citizen science project with a long tradition. This year marks the 126th annual count! New and experienced birders are welcome to go with established teams to take part in the census of birds the various count circles.   There are over 2,600 15-mile diameter count circles in the Americas. Saw Mill River Audubon volunteers will, once again, be staffing a Project Feeder Watch gathering every Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 am to 12 noon, at the Croton Point Park Nature Center.  SMRA will be providing the bird seed as well!  Stop by anytime to assist with this citizen science project that IDs and counts birds visiting bird feeders.  (Learn more about this international project that you can also do at your feeders by visiting www.feederwatch.org.) Hot beverages and probably even some light refreshments available. Friendly and casual way to learn more about our local birds and meet up with people from Saw Mill River Audubon. All are welcome and no registration needed!

Start your New Year with an invigorating 1.5 mile walk along the Hudson River across the beautiful landscape of Rockwood Hall, former estate of William A. Rockefeller Jr. The hike will be guided by Larry Trachtenberg of the Saw Mill River Audubon Society. We will keep an eye out for winter birds including both bald eagles and the red-tailed hawks often seen in this part of the preserve. We’ll move at a slow to moderate pace and will encounter some hills; there are benches along the way. Dress warmly and bring binoculars if you have them.

Eagle Walk with Charlie Roberto from Saw Mill River Audubon

A popular event! Join Charlie Roberto at the Croton boat ramp inside and past the Croton Train Station to start at 9:00 am. Then we will caravan into Croton Point Park to park and continue the Eagle Walk. The walk is expected to last until 11:30 am. Leave earlier if you wish. No registration needed. Good for all ages. Join us after the walk at the Nature Center for our annual Soup Gathering. Please do RSVP for the Soup Gathering to let us know what you will bring: https://www.sawmillriveraudubon.org/soup   The Soup Gathering starts at 12noon but the Nature Center will be open with Audubon volunteers from 8:30 am and following. You are welcome to drop off items for the Soup Gathering at the Nature Center before the Eagle Walk, starting at 8:30 am. The Nature Center driveway is located in the back right-hand corner of the main parking lot at Croton Point as you enter the lot from the park entrance. You are welcome to drive up to the Nature Center to drop off or pick up your Soup Gathering contribution/containers and passengers.   NOTE: There will likely be limited parking by the Nature Center during the Soup Gathering so many people choose to park in the main parking lot at the foot of the Nature Center driveway.

All are welcome to join us at this free and fun community gathering at the Croton Point Nature Center.  Please RSVP by visiting: https://www.sawmillriveraudubon.org/soup   Our Soup Gathering will follow our ever-popular morning eagle walk led by Charlie Roberto which starts 9:00 am at the Croton boat ramp (inside and past Croton Train Station) and then continues inside Croton Point Park. Walk ends around 11:30 pm. (You don't need to attend the walk to come to the Soup Gathering.) Our monthly Second Saturday walk at Brinton Brook Sanctuary happens today too.
