About Us
The Governor's Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (GCADA) was established in 1989 as an independent planning and coordinating body covering state, county, and local efforts regarding alcoholism, tobacco, and other drug abuse. Since its earliest implementation, GCADA has had two primary missions: the development of a Master Plan with a State Government Component, and to provide funds and maintain Municipal Alliances in all 21 New Jersey counties. The network of Municipal Alliances is one rooted in local perspectives and grassroots organization. Comprising mostly of volunteers, the Alliances were established in order to assess the needs of the community while developing and implementing plans which focus on the importance of substance abuse prevention programs.
