Sons of Norway- Mandt Lodge will host a morning and afternoon lefse making class on December 6, 2025 at Mandt Lodge. Two sessions are available 9-11 AM or 12:30-2:30 PM and the cost is $20 per class. Youth ages 12 and under are $10. Mandt Lodge members will share recipes and techniques for making lefse how our lodge makes it! Volunteers will walk participants through the mixing, baking, cooling and packaging process we use at Mandt. Of course, sampling your work is encouraged and lefse will be sent home with participants. Mandt Lodge will provide equipment and supplies. Registrations are capped at 20 per class and will close when full. Registration and payment is needed to secure your spot! The classes often fill fast so don’t wait! We will cap the class at 20 and return any registrations and check if the class is already full upon receipt. Painter Diane Washa will be in conversation with gallerist Theresa Abel discussing the work in her current show Biophilia followed by Q&A from the audience. Open to the public, this event will be held on the main floor of the gallery and will be recorded for later viewing. Diane Washa – Biophilia Madison artist Diane Washa uses oil paint to interpret the landscape and make it her own. Through direct observation, she creates paintings that are sometimes soft, other times dramatic, but always with the sensitivity of a poet. Washa has been witnessing the landscape long before she began painting it. "We discover why we're passionate about art when memories come on strong or moments of transcendence remind us of what and who first sparked our artist drive." When Washa talks about the locations where she paints, the people she meets along the way become an important part of the story. "Painting in plein air isn't just about creating a piece of art in a beautiful setting. It's the journey of finding that place and the beautiful people I meet along the way."

Acoustic guitarist Leo Kottke was born in Athens, Georgia, but left town after a year and a half. Raised in 12 different states, he absorbed a variety of musical influences as a child, flirting with both violin and trombone, before abandoning Stravinsky for the guitar at age 11. Kottke's 1971 major-label debut, "Mudlark," positioned him somewhat uneasily in the singer/songwriter vein, despite his own wishes to remain an instrumental performer. Still, despite arguments with label heads as well as with Bruce, Kottke flourished during his tenure on Capitol, as records like 1972's "Greenhouse" and 1973's live "My Feet Are Smiling" and "Ice Water" found him branching out with guest musicians and honing his guitar technique. His collaboration with Phish bassist Mike Gordon, "Clone," caught audiences' attention in 2002. Kottke and Gordon followed with a recording in the Bahamas called "Sixty Six Steps," produced by Leo's old friend and Prince producer David Z. Kottke has been awarded two Grammy nominations; a Doctorate in Music Performance by the Peck School of Music at the U of Wisconsin, Milwaukee; and a Certificate of Significant Achievement in Not Playing the Trombone from the U of Texas at Brownsville with Texas Southmost College.

Join Sons of Norway Mandt Lodge as they welcome the Edvard Grieg Chorus for a Christmas concert and sing-a-long! The concert begins at 7 PM and the lodge will offer refreshments afterwards. The Edvard Grieg Chorus is a Norwegian men's chorus founded on January 26, 1925 in Madison, Wisconsin. Its repertoire includes songs in Norwegian and English. The Chorus is one of 11 that make up the Norwegian Singers' Association of America. The Chorus will present a selection of Norwegian/English sons and lead the audience in a sing-a-long of Norwegian/English Christmas carols. A free-will offering will be available to support the Edvard Grieg Chorus. Mandt Lodge will offer refreshments after the performance. Explore a beautiful collection of Hardanger embroidery created exclusively by Donna M. Olson. Join us for a Gallery Talk with Donna on Saturday, December 13, at 10:30 a.m., where she’ll share insights into her work and lifelong connection to Hardangersom. Donna earned her teaching degree from Hamline University and taught at Iowa State University before moving to Stoughton, where she embraced the community’s strong Norwegian heritage. After learning Hardangersom from longtime local stitchers, she began teaching the craft in 1972. In 1991, she founded Satin Stitches, offering traditional and contemporary designs in select Midwest shops and online. She continues to teach a weekly class at the Stoughton Senior Center. The exhibit is on display through January 9, 2026.
