This course invites 4 ~ 8 graders into the exciting world of additive manufacturing where they’ll learn to design, mold, and manufacture their own creations in a workshop setting. Students will engage with software CAD tools and Tinkercad to explore 3D modeling, combining, rotating, and manipulating shapes to build imaginative, functional objects. Students will become familiar with the complete digital pipeline: exploring STL files, slicing them into print ready G-code, and preparing them for production. This creative process builds strong spatial reasoning, problem solving skills, and hands on technical literacy ~ skills that underpin modern STEAM education. Class Description:  This hands-on course invites adults into the dynamic world of additive manufacturing, where they’ll design, mold, and manufacture their own creations in a workshop setting.  Participants will use CAD software such as Tinkercad to explore 3D modeling fundamentals - combining, rotating, and refining shapes to produce functional, imaginative objects.  Along the way, they’ll learn the complete digital production pipeline, from exploring STL files and slicing models into print ready G-code to preparing machines for fabrication.  The experience strengthens spatial reasoning, technical confidence, and problem solving skills while building practical tools that drive modern engineering, prototyping, and creative industries.  Participants will also bring their designs into the physical world through 3D printing, thermoforming, and professional post-processing techniques.  Under guidance, they’ll operate printers using common industry plastic materials and advanced materials such as carbon fiber, flexible filaments, foam, and dissolvable supports.  Furthermore, participants will learn how to safely use workshop power tools and equipment to refine finished prints.  The course emphasizes workplace safety, proper equipment handling, and real world production practices, while also introducing the fundamentals of launching a small 3D printing business-from workflow planning to client ready finishing.  By the end, participants will leave with completed projects, practical technical skills, and a confident understanding of how digital design becomes real world products.  To register for this class, email Matt Pritzl at [email protected] or call (715) 543 ~ 8417 ext. 322.  Online registration is also available on our school website www.northlakelandschool.com on the Community Education site.   Class Dates: Wednesdays.
