Join us for a film night (usually) on the first Friday of each month! Selections include feature-length films, documentaries, and shorts. Snacks and drinks provided.  This month's feature: Hundreds of Beavers (2022) In this wild and wacky black-and-white silent film, a drunken 19th-century applejack salesman finds himself up against an army of beavers after losing everything in a freak snowstorm. With no weapons or supplies, he's forced to rely on sheer cunning (and pure luck) to outsmart the beavers and survive in the wilderness. What follows is a madcap, slapstick battle of man versus nature, filled with zany antics and unexpected twists. Some cookies are traditionally made only during the winter holidays. We’ll discuss how a few basic cookie recipes can be turned into a wide assortment of different cookies such as lemon pinch, pecan fingers, Linzer, pressed, and many more. All of the doughs and cookies can be done ahead and frozen to make your holiday baking fun and easy! Samples will be provided.  You are welcome to bring your own cookies to exchange with others! This is a fun option but not a requirement for participation.  Limited space; registration is required. To register, use the link on this page or contact your local library. Registration opens two weeks prior to program date.   About the Presenter Punky Egan earned the title of Certified Master Baker, one of less than 200 in the country, from the professional organization RBA (Retail Bakers of America). Through her 45-year professional baking career, she owned Sucré Patisserie and Dessert Lounge, was a consultant to the baking industry, and recipe developer. At Madison College, she was the director of the baking program as well as lead instructor. She co-authored 3 cookbooks, wrote baking articles for professional publications, created instructional baking videos for her baking students. Madison Public Library is partnering with the Dane County Land & Water Resources Department to provide a collection of native Wisconsin plant seeds this winter. The native plant seeds have been collected by Dane County Parks volunteers. Native Wisconsin plant seeds are best sown in the fall and left to overwinter. Now the library is looking for volunteers to help with the hard part: packaging the seeds so library patrons can take them home! If you would like to donate your time and effort to this project, please register below! Why native plants? “Native plants are adapted to the local climate and soils, are drought tolerant, disease resistant, and have deep root systems that help infiltrate rain water. She likes nothing more than sipping on a good cup of Wulong and doing some healthy detective work on the Internet about what her Gen-Z son is up to.  Then one morning, Vera trudges downstairs to find a curious thing—a dead man in the middle of her tea shop. Tweens and teens 12 and up are invited to join us for Dungeons & Dragons at Lakeview Library. Be a part of an adventuring party where you'll use your imagination and creativity to explore a fantasy world in an epic quest. Our Dungeon Master Derrick will provide support and help you learn to play. Sessions will be held twice a month and will be for beginners, although participants with some D& D experience are encouraged to join as well. About D& D: Dungeons and Dragons is a fantasy tabletop role-playing game that allows each player to create their own character to play. These characters embark upon imaginary adventures within a fantasy setting. A Dungeon Master (DM) serves as the game's referee and storyteller, while maintaining the setting in which the adventures occur. Space is limited for this program.
