Come learn about salmon and the Snoqualmie River from Bethany Fackrell, a Snoqualmie (sdukʷalbixʷ) Tribe member, veteran, and artist, who also serves on the Tribe’s Salmon Committee. Bethany is the artist behind one of KCLS's new library card designs depicting salmon! She uses traditional Salish patterns in a contemporary way to bring her culture to light. Her art pieces offer this by spreading teachings, stories, and real experiences.  Bethany will share a welcome song in Lushootseed (txʷəlšucid), the traditional language of the Snoqualmie Tribe, before talking about the life cycle of salmon in our rivers, their role in the ecosystem, and their historical relationship with the native people since time immemorial. There will be a fun sensory activity to understand how spawning salmon find their way home, and participants will leave with an understanding of practical ways they can help preserve healthy salmon runs for future generations.  All ages welcome with an adult.  Registration not required, but space is limited. Please come early to ensure a spot.
