Densho, in partnership with the King County Library System Memory Lab, will bring its mobile digitization equipment to the Bellevue Library in order to scan historical photos, documents, and heirlooms to be added to the Densho Digital Repository. Densho is a Seattle-based digital archive and public history organization that preserves and shares the stories of Japanese Americans who were incarcerated during World War II. Our public website offers irreplaceable firsthand accounts from those who lived through this history, as well as vast collections of historical materials and educational resources. Types of materials appropriate for scanning: - Photographs (no rolled photos) - Letters - Documents (between 1 to 10 pages long) - Small artifacts (no larger than 12 inches cubed) In general, we are looking for items related to immigration, pre-war life, the incarceration and forced removal, and the immediate post-war return of Japanese Americans. Due to time constraints, we can only scan a limited number of items on-site. Densho will be working with families during assigned time slots.
