Where: 1019 7th St, Anacortes, WA Date: Monday, January 5th  Time: 11:00 AM The Red Door Thrift Shop Celebrates 50 Years of Giving Back to the Anacortes Community Grand Opening of New Addition Marks a New Chapter in Local Generosity   ANACORTES, WA — December 16, 2025 — The Red Door Thrift Shop, a beloved community fixture operated by Christ Episcopal Church, is proud to announce the grand opening of its newly expanded store, marking 50 years of service and generosity to the Anacortes community.   What began half a century ago as a small resale space known as The Mouse House has grown into a thriving nonprofit thrift store dedicated to supporting local needs. Over the years, the Red Door Thrift Shop has steadily increased its charitable giving—from donating 10% of proceeds in its early days to now giving 100% of profits back to the community through grants and local support initiatives.   “Our mission has always been to turn generosity into action,” said Dawn Jex, Manager. “Every donation, every purchase, and every volunteer hour helps make a tangible difference right here in Anacortes.”   At the end of each year, the Red Door Thrift Shop awards grants to local nonprofits, schools, and community programs, ensuring that every dollar spent in the shop circles back to those who need it most. Our areas of focus are: Feeding the Hungry, Sheltering the Homeless, Caring for the Elderly, Nurturing Families and Children, Welcoming Foreigners and Caring for Creation.   The newly completed addition will allow the shop to expand its retail space, bring volunteers in, out of the cold, create a more welcoming shopping experience, and ultimately increase the support it can offer to the community.   To celebrate, the Red Door Thrift Shop invites the public to attend a Grand Opening Celebration on January 5, 2026, at 11a.m. at The Red Door Thrift Shop, 1019 7th Street, Anacortes. The event will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, refreshments, and a look back at 50 years of community service and generosity.   “The Red Door Thrift Shop is more than just a store,” said Diane Guinn, Red Door Committee Member.  “It’s a place where kindness, community, and purpose meet. We are honored to continue serving Anacortes for the next 50 years and beyond.” About the Red Door Thrift Shop The Red Door Thrift Shop is a nonprofit outreach ministry of Christ Episcopal Church in Anacortes, Washington. 100% of the shop’s profits go directly back into the community through grants and charitable giving. Discover the incredible secret lives of Harbor Porpoises with renowned researcher and director of Pacific Mammal Research Dr. Cindy Elliser! Harbor Porpoises are one of the most abundant marine mammal species in the Salish Sea, however there is much we don’t know about this often elusive species. Pacific Mammal Research (PacMam) has spent over 10 years conducting behavioral and photo-identification research on Harbor Porpoises to learn more about their behavior, ecology, movement patterns, and more. PacMam is one of the few organizations in the world conducting this type of work on Harbor Porpoises. Dr. Elliser’s talk will help you get to know your cetacean neighbors and learn about the individual lives and behaviors of Harbor Porpoises in the Salish Sea. There is more to them than meets the eye! Join us on Friday, January 16th 2026 at NWESD 189 Building, located at 1601 R Ave. Reservations for this lecture will open at 9:00am on Friday, January 2nd. Please note that reservations are required. Head to reserve your seats! Doors will open at 6:15pm.
