Rare primary source documents from the Hite family reveal insights into her life.The program takes place in the winter kitchen of the Belle Grove Manor House (enter under the front porch). Regular admission prices apply to tour the Manor House before the program (at 1:15) or after the program (at 3:15). Gaze at the night sky with the National Park Service and the Shenandoah Astronomical Society (SAS), on land preserved by the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation (SVBF). Telescopes are provided, or you may bring your own. SAS members can teach you how to use it. Bring camp chairs or blankets.A park ranger will present a short interpretive talk about the importance of preserving the night sky. Afterwards there will be opportunities to use the telescopes for night sky viewing. Overcast skies or inclement weather may cancel the program. Call the Visitor Center at 540-869-3051 to confirm.

A park ranger guides a two-hour driving tour by car caravan covering the Battle of Cedar Creek from beginning to end. This 13-mile tour follows the major events of October 19 1864 and stops at five to six key sites. Meet at Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation Museum & Visitor Center 8437 Valley Pike. 

Take exit 298 off Interstate 81 to Middletown. The CCBF Museum and Visitor Center is at 8437 Valley Pike just south of Middletown on U.S. Highway 11.

A park ranger leads a woodland walk along Civil War trenches preserved by the Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation. A Confederate surprise attack overran the US 19th Corps in the early morning of October 19, 1864. Meet at the entrance to the 19th Corps Trails at the 128th New York Monument. The trail entrance is on US Route 11, 2.4 miles south of the NPS Visitor Center in Middletown, Va. The walk is about one half-mile on even ground.
