Celebrate Women’s History Month with the Utah Historical Society. Come see how the past is woven into the present and stitch a tribute to those that have come before.In this embroidery basics class, we will bring historic photos from the Peoples of Utah Revisited collection to life through thread and learn a bit about some of the Utah women who have come before us. You’ll learn beginner-friendly stitches and be able to receive hands on help as you bring your photos to life with color. All supplies and light refreshments will be provided. This event is free, but registration is required. This Hobby 101 class is brought to you through a partnership with the County Library and the Utah Historical Society. This hour-long workshop is an introduction to the tradition of Zoque-Maya chocolate-making. Come experience cultural enrichment, ancestral food preparation, and try some cacao-based drinks. Presented by: Esmeralda Torres and the Lopez Aquino Family of Chiapas, Mexico, and Utah. This workshop explores preserving family food heritage and ancestral wisdom, focusing on culinary traditions. It features the Lopez Family’s Maya and Zoque chocolate-making tradition, examining their ancestral recipes, ingredients, tools, and techniques to honor and celebrate their ancestors’ resilience and love, fostering stronger participant identity. The session also examines the common experience among Utah’s native and diverse communities in preserving ancestral food preparation for family sustenance and generational knowledge. We will analyze similarities and differences in ancestral tools and the use of native versus non-native foods, addressing the challenges and resilience involved in upholding these family recipes as a way to preserve essential family values and unity.

Using Oral History Beyond the Interview trainingApril 23, 2026 at 6 p.m.Zoom (link will be sent to your email before the training date) RSVP: https://secure.qgiv.com/for/localhistoryservices/event/ohtrainingapr2026/ Oral history is comprised of in-depth recorded interviews, audio or video, and their transcripts. While these are usually preserved publicly in historical repositories, oral history can be utilized to enhance historical work. This training will show how oral history interviews can be used in telling local history and public programming. Participants will also learn how to treat oral history as a vital primary source. Note: This training is free, but registration is required.
