Join a Park Ranger and volunteer Fishing Ambassadors to Learn to Surf Fish!This family friendly program is designed for the absolute beginner to learn all about fishing. From basic tackle and casting techniques to stewardship and conservation. Park staff and volunteers will help you gain the knowledge to pick up fishing all on your own.This 2-hour program starts at 9:30 am at the Malaquite Visitor Center and begins with a classroom session and then moves down to Malaquite Beach to fish for approximately 45-60 minutes. All equipment is provided thanks to our friends at the IGFA! Participants should come prepared with what they need for the weather conditions, including sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, drinking water, and clothes that can get wet.Space is limited and advance registration is required. Signup by calling the Malaquite Visitor Center at 361-949-8068. You may signup beginning 7 days before each program date.Children must be accompanied by a participating adult during the program. A fishing license is not required for this instructional program and all fishing is catch and release only.

Awaken your senses and embrace the tranquility of the morning with our sunrise yoga class on the rooftop deck of the Malaquite Visitor Center, overlooking the sparkling waters of the gulf. You'll witness the sun rising over the horizon as you cultivate inner peace and vitality in this picturesque setting. Led by a certified yoga instructor, this one-hour, unique experience harmonizes mind and body through gentle movement and stretching, accompanied by the soothing sound of the ocean. Find your balance and connect with nature in this serene environment! All levels are welcome—no prior experience required. Space is limited to 20 people and advance registration is required. Reserve your spot by calling the Malaquite Visitor Center at 361-949-8068. You may signup beginning 7 days before each program date. Please bring your own yoga mat/towel, props (blocks/strap), and water to drink. The rooftop is accessed by two flights of stairs. Event is weather dependent.
