OPENING NIGHT: Proceeds go to the VFW Auxiliary At the height of WWII with a frantic need to produce food, yet faced with a critical shortage of labor, American farmers were compelled to accept help in their fields from prisoners of war. While farmers’ sons fought men just like them in trenches and tanks in Europe, the presence of these POWs in rural America led to plenty of emotional conflict at home. Isabelle Hunt knows her husband Fred needs help with their beet crop, so he grudgingly allows German POWs from a camp nearby to work the family’s fields. Fred is furious over the food and privileges the POWs get, especially while the Hunts’ injured son is a POW overseas and may be starving to death. When their lovely 17-year-old daughter Anna meets the handsome and intelligent German soldier Dieter, there is mutual attraction — and plenty of wrath from Fred. This is the story of small-town humanity, the simplicity of rural life, the conflicts from economic desperation, and unrequited love. There is conflict for some, acceptance by others, and adjustments for all.

Imagine the Hill Country of 100 years ago – see it for yourself at Honey Creek State Natural Area. This protected piece of land harbors plants and animals nurtured by a 1.5-mile spring-fed creek. Access to Honey Creek is only by guided tour. We lead two-mile tours of the natural area most Saturdays and Sundays. For details, check our Events Page at https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/honey-creek/park_events On the tour, you’ll hear about history, geology, plants, and animals of this special place. At the scenic overlook, you’ll get a first glimpse of Honey Creek winding through bald cypress trees far below. The tour culminates in a walk by the pristine and peaceful creek. The trail is about two miles long and moderate in difficulty--much of it is flat.  There are some rocky areas, slopes, and two steep but short hills.  *Expect the walk to last ~2.5 hours - there are frequent stops where your Guide will discuss topics such as flora, fauna and geology.   Who: Recommended for ages 7 and up; no dogs, please, except for service dogs Meet: Outside the Rust House (located within Guadalupe River State Park) When: 9- 11:30am Bring: Sturdy footwear, water, and sun protection.  It is imperative to dress for the weather and be hydrated during the summer months. With four miles of river frontage, the Guadalupe River takes center stage at the park.  We are open daily, with a variety of activities for all interests, ages, and abilities.  Please check the calendar at the website below for the wonderful variety of offerings!    ......More

With four miles of river frontage, the Guadalupe River takes center stage at the park.  We are open daily, with a variety of activities for all interests, ages, and abilities.  Please check the calendar at the website below for the wonderful variety of offerings!    On the river, you can swim, fish, tube, and canoe. While on land, you can camp, hike, ride mountain bikes or horses, picnic, geocache, and bird watch. We loan fishing gear and kid’s explorer packs (free!) for use in the park. Camp at one of 85 water and electric campsites or nine walk-in tent sites.  Kayak or canoe the Guadalupe River. When the water levels are good there are several options for paddling trips. Explore 13 miles of hike and bike trails.  (Sometimes, we may close trails to protect sensitive areas or for bad weather. Please observe closure signs. Call or check our Facebook page or Twitter feed for updates.) Step away from the river to find the more peaceful areas. For a more primitive experience, our remote Bauer Unit Day-use area has hiking and biking trails with ratings from moderate to challenging. Experience native prairie grasses and wildlife. River access is a 2- to 3-mile hike downhill.  The Bauer Unit has no restrooms or potable water and fires are not permitted. Pack out your trash and Leave No Trace! Learn more about the park’s natural features at the Discovery Center. Take a closer look at nature using magnifying glasses, microscopes, and binoculars. Explore hands-on discovery boxes and exhibits. Ask about borrowing an explorer pack!

Calling all bourbon and cigar enthusiasts! Discover our exclusive bar space designed for those who savor the finer things in life. Whether you’re winding down after a round of golf or catching the game after work, our intimate new weekly event Sip & Savor: Thursday Tastings is perfect for you.       Limited seating available for our upcoming Thursday night ticketed event, offering a unique peek into our hidden gem. Tickets include four expressions to be tasted, focusing on a different spirit each week. Your ticket also includes different hors d'oeuvres each week. Bulverde Police  Department Presents Police Officers Educating Teens Teens and parents are invited to sign up and see how making the wrong choice  or decision can affect the rest of your life.  Topics to be discussed are: Decisions  Drinking and Driving  Distracted Driving  Drugs  Bullying  Cyberbullying Sexting Social Media Driving Habits Speeding Risks vs Rewards  Respect   The intent of this program is to help young adults understand that they have a choice and to assist them in making an educated decision. The program will be taught by police officers and members of the court with occasional guest speakers. The program consists of 2 hours in a classroom setting with written, visual and audio material.  Attendees are encouraged to interact with instructors and ask questions. Imagine the Hill Country of 100 years ago – see it for yourself at Honey Creek State Natural Area. This protected piece of land harbors plants and animals nurtured by a 1.5-mile spring-fed creek. Access to Honey Creek is only by guided tour. We lead two-mile tours of the natural area most Saturdays and Sundays. For details, check our Events Page at https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/honey-creek/park_events On the tour, you’ll hear about history, geology, plants, and animals of this special place. At the scenic overlook, you’ll get a first glimpse of Honey Creek winding through bald cypress trees far below. The tour culminates in a walk by the pristine and peaceful creek. The trail is about two miles long and moderate in difficulty--much of it is flat.  There are some rocky areas, slopes, and two steep but short hills.  *Expect the walk to last ~2.5 hours - there are frequent stops where your Guide will discuss topics such as flora, fauna and geology.   Who: Recommended for ages 7 and up; no dogs, please, except for service dogs Meet: Outside the Rust House (located within Guadalupe River State Park) When: 9- 11:30am Bring: Sturdy footwear, water, and sun protection.  It is imperative to dress for the weather and be hydrated during the summer months. Cost: Free with park admission; Adults: $7, Children 12 & under: Free Registration is required for this event - please see the events page link above.
