Our Homeschool Workshops take children on a deep dive into a variety of STEM-based learning and discovery topics. Students will learn about the environment and the animals that live there all while having a safe and engaging experience. Each class is a 60 minute program (10:00AM – 11:00AM or 12:00PM – 1:00PM) and includes an up-close animal greet, a lesson, and a hands-on activity. We’re excited to partner with Arete Athletics to bring you a truly unique fitness experience—Wildlife Workout! This event features a bodyweight workout session right inside the zoo, followed by an exclusive giraffe feeding experience. Designed for adults ages 25-50, this one-hour class is perfect for all fitness levels. The event will run from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM, with a giraffe feeding experience from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM. We’re teaming up with the Community Music School in Trappe to bring live, all-ages jazz music to the zoo on Saturday, September 21. Children will learn about the instruments that contribute to jazz music’s unique sound and enjoy featured performances throughout the day (located at our Bison Stage).   Schedule 12PM: Student performer Chloe B. sings Jazz standards (Vocals) 1PM: Professional Jazz Pianist Alan Dynin presents jazz standards and some classic Disney songs reimagined (Piano and Vocals) 2PM: Student performers perform jazz standards (Instrumental)   Alan Dynin Bio: Alan has been playing piano professionally for over thirty years. A versatile pianist comfortable performing both jazz and classical, Alan is also skilled at blues and boogie, Latin, Ragtime, showtunes and pop music. Alan has been a featured performer for The North Carolina Jazz and World Music Society, the Circular Church Jazz Vespers Series (Charleston), The Atlanta Symphony Associates, as well for many other concert events. Alan’s repertoire includes thousands of songs, ranging from Rhapsody in Blue to Chopin Etudes to Scott Joplin pieces, Oscar Peterson style hard swinging numbers, Dr John-ish raging boogie tunes, and stylish versions of Musical Theatre medleys. He has three solo piano CDs, two of them all original compositions, and writes pieces that at times uniquely connect such diverse genres as jazz, impressionism, classical, boogie and gospel. He has created intriguing versions of popular music such as Elton John and Billy Joel songs, and has put on numerous piano based concerts of Beatles music. Guests may request a sensory backpack upon their arrival at the Admissions window. Guests must provide the zoo with a valid ID. The zoo will hold this ID until the backpack is returned.   QUIET SPACEA dedicated quiet space is located at the south facing side of the bison exhibit. This is a method used by real-life scientists and naturalists to collect data and do their work in the field, but it is also a great way for anyone to make a connection with our natural world. This is a practice that anybody can participate in, regardless of their artistic ability. Guests will learn how to tap into their creativity by incorporating diagrams, maps, notations, and many other disciplines into their journaling, using materials provided by the zoo! Yappy Hour events are now FREE to attend!* Spend a fun evening with your family, friends, or even your favorite four-legged family member at Zoo Brew Beer Garden. *All guests visiting the zoo with a dog must complete an online application (below) before visiting. Yappy Hours are like Happy Hours except they cater to canines as well as their owners! We invite you, your family, friends and even your dog to join us after regular zoo hours on select nights, from 5:00PM – 8:30PM (last admission at 7:30PM). Guests will enjoy drink and lite bites at our Zoo Brew Beer Garden, including craft beer from a local brewery- Von C Brewing Co. Each dog will receive one free pup whipped cream treat cup. NEW THIS YEAR – Meet some of your favorite heroes at the Paw Patrol Character Greets, happening at each event from 5PM to 8PM (see below for schedule)! Owners/handlers are limited to one (1) dog per person at any time. All dogs must be registered to the owner/handler walking them through the zoo. Handlers must be over the age of 18 and not also not responsible for managing children. All dogs attending the zoo must be evaluated by a licensed veterinarian at a minimum of once per year. Dogs must receive monthly heart worm prevention and receive an annual heartworm test. Vaccinated against Rabies, Canine Distemper Virus and Canine Parvovirus (proof required). All dogs should arrive at the zoo with a well-fitting collar with one tag that indicates contact information for owners and one tag that confirms rabies vaccination status. Collars must be worn at all times. Retractable leashes are not permitted. For the safety of your dog and others, we do not allow puppies under 4 months, sick dogs, dogs with active injuries (ie. stitches, bandages, etc) or female dogs in heat. If the temperature on the day of your Dog Day or Yappy Hour exceeds 85 degrees fahrenheit the event will be cancelled. Weekends Only – October 5 through October 27 – 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM Boo at the Zoo returns on Saturday, October 5. Join us for a spooktacular afternoon filled with fun for princesses, ghosts, superheroes, and all your little ghouls and goblins. Don’t forget your trick-or-treat bags—there will be treat and activity stations all along Stony Creek. Come dressed in your most creative costumes, and remember, adults are encouraged to join in the fun too! Plus, enjoy live music from 12-2 PM. Celebrate Fall With Us! Get ready for a fantastic family-friendly adventure at Elmwood Park Zoo’s Harvest Fest! Dive into the magic of fall with exciting carnival games*, live music, face painting* and a whole lot more, all happening around the Stony Creek Stage (located by Zoo Brew). *Event is free to attend with zoo admission. Games and activities may be an additional cost. Volunteering positions at Harvest Fest include doing activities like helping guests with making enrichment and/or crafts for our animals, running educational games, handing out prizes at a Trick-or-Treat station, assisting photo opportunities, managing props, supervising a bonfire with s’mores-making, and many other tasks. If any of the above sounds interesting then consider signing up for an afternoon, or even several!  

Zoo Closed for Beast of a Feast

The zoo is closed from 10am to 5pm on Thursday, October 10  for Beast of a Feast preparations. The zoo will reopen from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM for Beast of a Feast attendees.
