Join us for a two-part presentation by AIA Bucks County and Honey Hollow Nature Center that will improve your birdhouse–and your chances of winning a prize at Peddler’s Village Best of the Nest Competition. Learn about bird habitats and behaviors and basic birdhouse design principles, such as form and function, to help you create your own special home for birds! This event has sold out. Thank you for your interest! Join us for an evening exploration of the croaks, trills, and splashes of our local amphibians. Get up close and personal with Spring Peepers, Leopard Frogs, Green Frogs, and many other local amphibians. You’ll also meet Pickles, our Australian Tree Frog!  Warm spring evenings are filled with the sounds of these fascinating animals, so grab your boots and a flashlight, and join our naturalists for a frog hunt. All frogs are carefully caught and released.   Members $5, Non-members $10.  Space is limited to 20 participants to prevent a negative impact on frog habitats, so register early! NestWatch is a community science project administered by Cornell Lab of Ornithology designed to track the status and trends in the reproductive biology of birds. This training session will instruct participants on how to properly monitor their assigned nest boxes, the Nest Watch Code of Conduct, the nest monitoring protocol, and the use of the NestWatch website and mobile app. The ability to walk reasonable distances over uneven terrain and a commitment to monitoring the assigned boxes twice per week during the nesting season are required to participate.  Free, but registration is required. THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST! Peak into the fantastic world of Fungi with Jeff Mertz, Founder and Forager of Wildspawn Mushrooms. He will present on the basic mushroom characteristics that will allow you to distinguish common mushrooms right in your backyard. The focus will be on edible and medicinal mushrooms, although some other notable fungi will also be included in the conversation. Not only will you learn about native fungi, but Jeff will also teach you to identify common plants and ecosystem types that certain mushroom species rely on. Jeff will set up a table of fresh and dried mushrooms so participants can get hands-on experience before and after the presentation. Jeff Mertz is an engineer/physicist turned mushroom farmer, forager, educator, and home chef. Jeff grew up as an active and outdoorsy kid, spending countless hours playing in the woods and eventually rising through the ranks of Boy Scouts to Eagle Scout. He started Wildspawn Mushrooms in 2021 with his best friend Cody Iannozzi, who shared his love for foraging mushrooms, nature, and local agriculture. Together they built a following at local farmers markets and eventually branched out into restaurants, CSA’s, and small local groceries. Today, Jeff is the sole-owner of WSM and his farming-operation is based in Montgomery, New Jersey. Members: $5 | Non-Members: $10
