Slow down and see Hopewell in a new way. Join a ranger for a one-hour guided session where you'll learn to observe and connect deeply with nature. Through simple journaling techniques you'll spark curiosity, practice mindfulness, and capture what you see with simple words or sketches. No artistic skills necessary! Perfect for ages 8 and up, this hands-on experience includes a short walk, brief instruction, and a fun journaling activity. Let nature inspire your creativity! Participants are encouraged to bring supplies including a notebook and pen/pencil. Limited supplies will be available for use.   Pets on leashes are allowed. Participants should dress appropriately and wear sturdy walking or hiking shoes. Water and restrooms are not available at the program location. Water and restroom facilities are available before and after the program at the park Visitor Center. This program may be cancelled in the event of inclement weather. Check back for updates.

Join us for our annual celebration of Independence Day! Hear the winners of our annual essay contest and take part in a reading of the Declaration of Independence. The commemoration ceremony begins at 2:00 pm.See how molding and casting works and learn how processes like this contributed to the American Revolution. Rangers and volunteers will build a sand mold and cast in aluminum. Hour-long demonstrations begin at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 3:00 pm. Discover how furnaces like Hopewell may have made cannons during the American Revolutionary War.Join a live Revolutionary War-era spinning bee and discover how ordinary people used wool, weaving, and teamwork to help support the Continental Army.

Historically, the casting of iron products was an exact craft, and the moulders who practiced it were among the highest paid of ironworkers. It took years to gain the necessary skills, and the craft was often passed from father to son.During this program, you can try your hand as a Hopewell molder! Experience the hands-on process of making a sand mold. Gain a better understanding of the craft of the molder and how they contributed to the furnace operation.This program is free and family friendly. Please note that this experience lasts about 1 hour. 

Program takes place in the Cast House within the historic furnace complex.
