Michelle Ashley began baking and creating beautiful custom cakes in June 2015 after a long career in the tech industry. Her creativity and budding talent lead her to explore cake decorating and after completing a few classes she was on her way to a sweet new career. With just a couple of classes under her belt Fred Meyer gave her a chance and offered Michelle her first cake decorating job. Her skills quickly grew from rookie to professional artist and only 6 months later she left to start her own business. After two years of running her new business out of her licensed home kitchen Michelle opened her first storefront bakery in September 2018 in the 45th Parallel Shopping Center on Hyacinth Street in NE Salem to much success. Michelle’s unique designs and talent have won her both gold and silver in the Statesman Journal’s Best of the Mid-Valley poll in 2018 and 2019! In 2020 Michelle won gold for Best Cupcake and Best Bakery in Best of the Willamette Valley and won first place for Best Wedding Cakes in Willamette Living Magazine’s Best of the Valley poll!  Friday Morning = Greeters! This is the one of four Special Olympics Oregon summer regional athletics competitions around the state. There are eight local programs from all over Oregon invited to participate in this regional competition. Join us for the day either as a volunteer or a spectator! Special Olympics Oregon is recruiting volunteers to support this competition. Volunteers will serve as timers, stagers, and field event scorekeepers. There is no experience necessary to volunteer with Special Olympics Oregon, all volunteers will be trained on site during their shift by our competition management team. There are full and half day shifts available. Volunteers who register for a full day shift will receive a lunch, and all volunteers will receive a Special Olympics Oregon t-shirt. Join us at McCulloch Stadium on Sunday, June 14th, for an exciting day of track & field! This is one of four regional Athletics competitions across the state hosted by Special Olympics Oregon for athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This is a qualifying event for Special Olympics Oregon's Summer State Games. Athletes compete in various track and field events. Special Olympics Oregon is recruiting volunteers to assist with this event. Volunteer roles include timers, runners, field support, escorts, staging, results, awards, and lunch distribution. Timers: Record athlete times for track events Runners: Bring times/scores to awards tents between events Field Support: Assist with field events: measuring & officiating jumps & throws Escorts: Walking athletes to awards upon completion of an event Staging: Checking in athletes and walking athletes to starting positions Results: Receive and record athlete results There are full and half day shifts available. Full day volunteers will be given lunch during the event, and all volunteers will be given a Special Olympics Oregon t-shirt. Leadership Salem is a two-year program allows individuals: Exclusive access to decision-makers and experts in their community. Focused skill development. Create lasting bonds with current and future community leaders. This yearly leadership development cohort focuses on helping the next generation of leaders multiply their impact. Program Overview Leadership Salem has two primary goals: Preparing motivated individuals to serve in impactful leadership roles throughout our community. Developing key career-long relationships for professionals within vested businesses and nonprofit organizations across the Salem community. Participants receive a comprehensive overview of the Salem area – its realities, opportunities, and challenges. Leadership Salem is a strategic cohort designed to have participants meet key business, government, and nonprofit leaders and decision-makers, while receiving an introduction to community resources by way of tours, panels, and speakers. Each of the 10 one-day sessions focuses on a different theme: Team Building, Community History, Legal/Criminal Justice, Natural Resources, Business & Commerce, Local Government, Education, Community Resources, Leadership, and a unique-to-your-cohort Community Project. The first year concludes with a community service project. Participants meet once a month for 10 months (September-June) and receive a comprehensive overview of the Salem area’s realities, opportunities, and challenges.
