Here at the Downtown Library, we’re always looking for fun ways to connect readers with our collection of books. Thus the idea of a library book “subscription” box, a connection between YOU the reader and US, your friendly neighborhood librarians. We want to help you find "YOUR NEXT FAVORITE BOOK", and we know it's in the library's collection!Each box will contain a book based on one of two monthly themes and fun swag that you get to keep! We ask that you return the box (if you can) and a completed review/evaluation card to the library. Library materials check out for 3 weeks and if you need more time you can renew it (if it's not on hold for another patron) and don't forget that you get to keep the swag! Teen Book Boxes must be picked up between Monday, February 1st and Saturday, February 20th and registration for the next Teen Book Box will start in March.

Stuck indoors while it's cold outside? Try something NEW and FUN! Register to pick up three juggling balls at Northwest Library and then join Chelsea Ryan of Hooplahoma for a joyous journey into the world of juggling! A link to her recorded demonstration will be uploaded here and emailed to all participants. Multiple members in your family who are interested in trying their hand(s) at juggling but only have the three balls? First, keep in mind you might be practicing with only one ball for a while. Second, try juggling with other items such as: balled-up socks, small oranges, tennis balls, or even scarves! Kits are one per FAMILY. Any duplicate registrations will be deleted. A chair is used for seated exercises and standing support and class can be modified depending on fitness levels. This class meets for 12 weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Jan. 12th through April 1st. Join the Library and instructors from the UCO's Center for Active Living & Learning for fun and fitness!Participants should have a chair and level surface free of tripping hazards to participate. Open Mic Poetry Night. Are you an amateur, a seasoned poet, or somewhere in between and looking for someplace to express your talent? Local poets have an opportunity to read their own work or just sit and listen to the work of other budding poets. This is a recurring event and takes place on the last Monday of each month.There will be a special event in January: A poetry contest: youth between ages 7 and 12. Kids can check out nursery rhyme books from the library to familiarize themselves with the subject matter. The winner of the contest will be the one who answers the most questions correctly out of 10. An example would be, “Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of …….?” The person who answers the most questions correctly would be awarded a $20.00 cash prize plus a library prize. We are going online. Register and we will send you the link.

Seniors stay active and independent! SAIL is designed to increase muscle strength, range of movement and improve activities for daily living. A chair is used for seated exercises and standing support and class can be modified depending on fitness levels. This class meets for 12 weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Jan. 12th through April 1st. Join the Library and instructors from the UCO's Center for Active Living & Learning for fun and fitness!Participants should have a chair and level surface free of tripping hazards to participate. Optional equipment: hand weights, water bottle, and towel.This project makes no distinctions on the grounds of race, color, gender, age, ancestry, national origin, religion, or disability. A portion of the project costs are met by state and federal OAA funds from the Areawide Aging Agency and OKDHS Aging Services.

Build "pawsitive" self-esteem and improve your reading skills while reading aloud to certified therapy dogs.  This program is a hybrid of our traditional Children Reading to Dogs program.  We will use technology to connect to the certified therapy dogs and their owner remotely.  You will need a device and internet connection to participate in this program. One staff member will be stationed in each breakout room with one reader and one certified therapy dog.You will receive the information to connect to this program through email one day prior to the program.  Please watch your email for this information.  If you do not receive the information you need please email: engagement@metrolibrary.org with the subject Children Reading to Dogs.Note:  You must register for every individual program.  Registration for these programs begins on Monday at 9am and ends on Wednesday at 4pm for that week's sessions.  (e.g., April 16th sessions registration begins on April 13th and ends on April 15th).
