Wheels for the World® provides life-changing mobility and the hope of the Gospel to people living with disabilities worldwide. Join a Wheels for the World outreach to Brazil! Each volunteer plays an essential role during a Wheels for the World outreach. Serve with us in a seating therapist, mechanic, photographer, seamstress, or support role. Every team member will directly impact the lives of people living with disability. What to know about BrazilBrazil covers nearly half of South America and is the continent’s largest nation. Nearly 10% of the people in the Brazilian population live with a disability and many are confined to their homes due to the shame felt by their families and a lack of affordable mobility equipment. Additionally, people living with disabilities are often neglected by Brazilian society and there is little initiative in creating accessibility for them. On this outreach you will have the opportunity to meet people who feel forgotten and trapped by poverty and offer hope by sharing God’s love and care for them. Join our team and use your gifts to work alongside our Brazilian partners to provide wheelchairs and Bibles to people living with disabilities.Cost and Safety ProtocolsThe cost for this outreach is all-inclusive and covers round-trip economy airfare from any city within the continental United States, visas (if required), in-country transportation, shared accommodations (double occupancy) while in-country, meals while in-country, and a cultural experience. However, any pre-outreach vaccination requirements are the responsibility of each individual traveler. Outreach costs may vary for applicants traveling from outside the 48 contiguous United States. Joni and Friends will adhere to country protocols related to health and safety requirements.

Ministry leaders are invited to visit Family Retreat to see firsthand how to take intentional steps to evangelize, disciple, and serve families living with disability in their church body. Attendees will have the opportunity to network with other ministry leaders also desiring to welcome and include families living with disability while also experiencing the hope that is renewed in families through friendship, inclusive worship, Bible study, and more. There are two options for ministry leaders who wish to attend on June 10th: Option 1: Arrive just before 9:00 a.m. for worship, a tour of programs, and lunch (optional). Depart between noon and 1:00 p.m.Option 2: Arrive just before 3:00 p.m. for a tour of afternoon activities, stay for dinner, and Talent Night. Depart at 8:30 p.m.Visit our Events Page for alternative Ministry Leader Visitor Day opportunities at Family Retreats. Registration is required to participate in Ministry Leader Visitor’s Day. Interns will travel together from the United States to Belem, Brazil, where they will experience the local culture and serve at a three-day International Family Retreat in cooperation with our in-country church partner. TrainingInterns will receive two days of training prior to International Family Retreat, and receive guidance and mentorship on how to use their gifts and talents to serve others and glorify God.Practical applicationStudents will put their two-day training to work serving as a one-on-one buddy for a person living with disability, or in general service at the retreat, facilitating worship or activities such as games and art projects. Students also will have the opportunity to serve in various capacities in partnership with the local church.Cost and Safety ProtocolsThe cost for this outreach is all-inclusive however, any pre-outreach vaccination requirements are the responsibility of each individual traveler. Outreach costs may vary for applicants outside of the 48 contiguous United States. Joni and Friends will adhere to country protocols related to health and safety requirements. If Joni and Friends cancels the event, we will refund or reallocate the donations in accordance with our current policies.
