Wheels for the World® provides life-changing mobility and the hope of the Gospel to people living with disabilities worldwide. Join a Wheels for the World outreach to Thailand! Each volunteer plays an essential role during a Wheels for the World outreach. Serve with us in a seating therapist, mechanic, photographer, seamstress, or support role. Every team member will directly impact the lives of people living with disability. What to know about ThailandThroughout the trip you will have opportunities to partner with our Thai brothers and sisters to provide mobility and share the Gospel with people living with disabilities. A wheelchair can drastically improve the life of a person with a disability in Thailand as it can increase their independence, allow access to education, and open the door for community with their local church.Cost and Safety ProtocolsThe cost for this outreach is all-inclusive and covers round-trip economy airfare from any city within the continental United States, visas (if required), in-country transportation, shared accommodations (double occupancy) while in-country, meals while in-country, and a cultural experience. However, any pre-outreach vaccination requirements are the responsibility of each individual traveler. Outreach costs may vary for applicants traveling from outside the 48 contiguous United States. Joni and Friends will adhere to country protocols related to health and safety requirements.

International Family Retreat offers help and hope to families living with disability around the world. Alongside local partners and churches, Joni and Friends volunteers help families find hope, dignity, and their place in the body of Christ through respite, hands-on help, and fun activities. Apply to volunteer at this International Family Retreat in Costa Rica. What to know about Costa RicaCosta Rica, located in Central America, is bordered by the eastern Caribbean Sea and western Pacific Ocean. You can find the countries of Nicaragua to the north of Costa Rica and Panama to the south. While Costa Rica is known for having one of the most stable democracies, people living with disabilities still face many challenges. Over 18% of Costa Ricans live with a disability and often face discrimination, prejudice, and a lack of education and employment. In fact, over half of Costa Ricans living with disabilities are unemployed. TrainingTheological training: Union University’s EDGE students will receive training on the biblical view of disability and a theology of suffering through the Joni and Friends Beyond Suffering course remotely prior to leaving through pre-trip meetings and online coursework. Practical application: As a capstone to the internship, students will serve people living with disability through a Joni and Friends International Family Retreat. Leadership development: Through their Joni and Friends internship, Union University students will hone servant-leadership skills, serving as the hands and feet of Jesus, meeting tangible needs through therapeutic intervention and education, and sharing the Gospel with those they serve.Cost and Safety ProtocolsThe $3,100 cost for this outreach is all-inclusive however, any pre-outreach vaccination requirements are the responsibility of each individual traveler. Every team member will directly impact the lives of people living with disability. About MadagascarJust outside of the southeast coast of Africa lies the island of Madagascar. This subtropical island is home to the Malagasy peoples, which consists of about 20 different ethnic people groups. Madagascar remains one of the poorest countries in the world (with 81% of the population living below the U.S. poverty line) and contains little to no infrastructure for those living with disabilities. Marginalization and strong discrimination from local communities surround those living with disabilities in Madagascar, especially against those with intellectual disabilities. By participating on this outreach, you will have the opportunity to provide a mobility device to some of the poorest in Madagascar while providing the message of the greatest need of all – salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ!
