Taken aback, Leonora agrees to accompany Cenci back to the younger woman's opulent house where she ostensibly lives alone. ---------------------------------------------------------------This monthly meeting is intended for Scarsdale residents who are middle school, junior high, high school, or homeschool students wanting to get involved with the community hub which is the Scarsdale Public Library. You can earn community service credit when you meet with your peers and teen librarian to discuss what you want from your public library's Teen Services Department. We're asking Teen Advisory Board (TAB) members for:- input into what programs teens want the Library to offer and when they should be scheduled;- ideas for programs/classes teens want to lead/teach for other teens or other age groups (with departmental approval);- help promoting programs to classmates and other community members;- creative contributions to our Instagram;- ideas for how to decorate and equip the Teen Room and Makerspace;- requests about what books we should order and in what formats; and- suggestions for partnerships with teachers/organizations where overlap exists between their purposes and those of Scarsdale Public Library, whose mission is to encourage the joy of reading, the exploration of ideas, and the pursuit of lifelong learning for all Scarsdalians.As opportunities arise, we may invite guest speakers to present relevant information at a meeting for the edification of teen attendees.REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.---------------------------------------------------------------

A remarkable, tautly composed, and melancholy drama based on the 1934 play of the same name by Lillian Hellman, The Children's Hour is actually the second time director William Wyler approached this story of two boarding school teachers whose reputations and lives are ruined by a slanderous rumor. Wyler previously made the 1936 film These Three where the slanderous rumor was of infidelity and adultery rather than lesbianism due to the censorious demands of the Hays Code, and he always intended to revisit it.Friends and fellow teachers Martha Dobie (Shirley MacLaine) and Karen Wright (Audrey Hepburn) open a private boarding school for girls. One of the young students there is a spoiled bully who carries tales and tells her influential grandmother that Martha and Karen are unnatural lovers, coercing another student into corroborating her story. Martha and Karen file a suit of slander but lose, costing them their jobs and reputations. Despairing, Martha tells Karen that other female couples have persevered due to the strength of their love, but Karen says that she is just confused about her feelings. Later, the lie is uncovered and the outcome of the lawsuit reversed, but it is too late. Martha has already hanged herself.Please note that The Children's Hour is only appropriate for mature audiences, with on-screen depictions of homophobia and suicide.This film is part of our celebration of Pride Month, showcasing queer stories and the LGBTQ+ actors, screenwriters, and directors, historical and contemporary, who contributed to American cinema. They understand the highs and lows, the sleep deprivation, the joys, the pressures, the role shifts, the challenges and even the fears associated with this perinatal period. Babes in arms welcome, but no toddlers please, if possible.This group is a judgement free zone. If you are running late, come anyway! If you are still in your Pajamas, come anyway! Baby crying and won’t stop fussing, come anyway! We all understand that getting out of the house during the perinatal period is difficult but come anyway! This is time for you to take care of YOU.During the group we will combine brief education about mood and anxiety disorders that can get in the way of enjoying your family forming journey, along with support group time. There will be resources provided and lots of time to give and receive support from other group members.NO REGISTRATION REQUIREDAbout the group leader:Andrea Glover, LCSW, PMHC, has a private practice in Scarsdale, and specializes in perinatal, reproductive, maternal, and menopausal mental health. Note: This program is for people 18 and up.Come to the library for some welcoming, focused time meant to give adult day habilitation groups, people living in congregate housing, and all people 18+ who might receive special care at home an opportunity for social interaction and fun games and activities. This will be a relaxed space set aside for people to visit the library and enjoy themselves. We'll have easy to join games such as UNO, Connect Four, Jenga, and more. There'll be coloring sheets and art supplies for enjoyment and self-expression. People will be free to move around and chat with friends or simply sit peacefully with their own preferred activity.This is meant to be a welcoming and inclusive program. Do you have your own favorite game or idea for a fun activity? We would be thrilled if you reach out to the library to discuss how we can better adapt Thursdays Together to serve caregivers and self-advocates.A librarian will be present to help supervise activities but we do ask that all caregivers or aides accompanying a person or group remain in the room during the program.
