Ari is a grammy nominated singer/songwriter who began his career as an independent artist in 2001. He built a loyal following touring the college circuit extensively between 2000 and 2003, after which he released two albums on Columbia Records, Someone To Tell (2004) and The Break-In (2007) all the while touring both in the U.S. and abroad with artists such as Martin Sexton, Suzanne Vega, and Ani Difranco. In 2008, Ari wrote, recorded and released a new song every Monday in his 52 project, and released Twelve Mondays in 2009, a collection of re-mixed fan favorites from 52. From 2010-2016, Ari continued to tour relentlessly and released four other LPâs: Sunset Over Hope Street(2011), The Fire Plays(2012), Shouts And Whispers(2015), and the grammy nominated Silver Skies Blue(2017), a duets album with Judy Collins.

This exploration walk is perfect for nature lovers of all ages! We will learn about woodland pools and the animals who call these places home. These woodland pools, also called vernal pools, are seasonal pools of water that provide habitat for distinctive plants and animals, like spring peepers, wood frogs, and salamanders. This time of year is ideal for spotting amphibians as they migrate from their wintering spots and journey to vernal pools to find mates. Whatâs involved: We will travel about a mile along the Salamander Loop, which features packed earth terrain. This event may include walking off-trail over uneven, wet, and muddy terrain to get closer to woodland pools. More information about trail conditions can be found here. In the case of inclement weather, this event will be postponed to Saturday, 4/11 at 10:00 a.m. What to bring: Please bring a water bottle and shoes that can get wet and muddy. Hiking boots or waterproof shoes are recommended for this program! What not to bring: Please, no dogs. We are proud to offer this program for free to the public with a suggested five-dollar donation.

In conjunction with the screening of the feature documentary A Place in the World (2025, dir. David Shayne), renowned British sculptor Garth Evans offers a rare glimpse into another avenue of his artistic expression: the paintbrush. Created over the course of one week in Lake Willoughby, Vermont, Evansâ luminous watercolor series evolves from representation to sensation, the landscape views gradually dissolving into fields of abstract color. Over a career spanning six decades, Garth Evans has presented work in more than one hundred solo and group exhibitions, including Garth Evans at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, curated by Richard Deacon in 2013. He has received numerous awards and residencies, among them a Guggenheim Fellowship. His work is held in major public and private collections worldwide, including Tate Britain, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the British Museum. In 2018 he founded the Sculpture Forum, an online platform for the discussion of sculpture.

The Ghent Playhouse is excited to announce a special event, The Directorâs Cut, Saturday, April 11 at 7pm!Something different â something fun!The Directorâs Cut is a fully improvised cinematic experience performed by the Hudson Valley Improv National Touring Company. A film director, under intense studio pressure to deliver his final cut, hosts a private âscreeningâ that quickly becomes a live, on-the-spot production. The Touring Company plays the actors while the audience becomes every essential department â from casting and costume to editing and marketing â shaping the movie as it unfolds. Music of Faure (quartet), Beethoven (quintet) and Farrenc (nonet). Concerts in the Village presents chamber music from the late-18 th , mid-19 th , and early-20 th centuries: Beethovenâs Quintet for Piano and Winds, Gabriel FaurĂŠâs String Quartet, and Louise Farrencâs Nonet for Strings and Winds. Encompassing only somewhat more than a century of music history, this program illustrates both the disciplined requirements of classicism and the much freer musical language embraced by late romanticism and impressionism. Experiencing such creative variety in one program will prove especially appealing â and a listening journey well worth taking! Performing will be 11 principal players drawn from CITVâs all-professional Broad Street Orchestra, joined by guest pianist Bethany Pietroniro, and comprising the Broad Street Chamber Players. In order the works programmed feature winds and piano, then strings, and in conclusion all winds and strings in full ensemble. Composed in 1796 when Beethoven was a relatively young 26 years old, his Quintet for Piano and Winds proved an immediate success â a bright, spirited work certainly inspired by the identically scored and similarly structured quintet of Mozart (composed only twelve years earlier). The piano part, likely written by Beethoven with himself in mind, contrasts warm lyricism with dramatic virtuosity, and is at times suggestive of the composerâs early piano concertos. Although the number of chamber works written by Gabriel FaurĂŠ is significant, as his sole string quartet, op. 121 is unique. Completed only a month before his death, and by his own admission only with much effort, this work seems to have been held in special regard by its composer. As has been remarked, this final compositional statement is âethereal and other-worldly with themes that seem constantly to be drawn skywards.â FaurĂŠâs quartet represents a notablecombining of late 19 th -century romantic richness with the more daring harmonic ambiguities soon to follow in the early 20 th . For the listener, what could be more enticing! Following intermission the afternoonâs string and wind ensembles are brought together for Louise Farrencâs memorable Nonet, a large-scale four-movement work written in 1849. Farrenc was both a pianist renowned throughout Europe and a very accomplished pedagogue and composer she was also the first woman granted a professorship at the Paris Conservatoire. The premiere of the Nonet is said to have made Farrenc a ânear-celebrityâ and to have causedthe Conservatoire to raise her salary in line with that of her male colleagues! Once again wishing to recognize Farrencâs brilliance as a composer, this program follows CITVâs earlier performances of her Sextet for Piano and Winds and Third Symphony. Not surprisingly listeners will find Farrencâs Nonet to be truly symphonic in effect â and a grand conclusion to a fine afternoon of chamber music!
