Qigong and Tai Chi are approaches to movement that have been practiced for hundreds of years and are particularly helpful for dealing with stress, limited ability to move, those wishing to developing better balance and flexibility and can be practiced by nearly everyone young and old. Although Tai Chi is generally practiced standing, Qigong can be modified to allow participants to be seated.This weekly drop-in class, open to all, will be taught by David Haines, who has been a practitioner of Qigong, Tai Chi, and mindful movement for 50 years, a teacher for 40 years, and a certified Trager Movement practitioner for 35 years. Since moving into the area in 2006 he has taught at Omega Institute, Simon's Rock college, Columbia-Greene Community College, as well as various libraries, senior centers, and school district community education classes. Classes will be in the Roe Jan Library Community Room or outdoors, weather permitting. Wear comfortable clothes.This project has been supported by a grant from the Fund for Columbia County of the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.

Rapidly warming temperatures mean that native species will move hundreds of miles in the coming decades just to support their environment. Our gardens can help native species shift their ranges and adapt to climate change. Plants that grow in a new environment can also develop invasive characteristics. Insect and plant life can make our current plant life vulnerable as they are not adapted to the invading species. Native plantings today seed ecosystems of the future.  Join Master Gardener Volunteer Mary Ann Iaccino from the Columbia-Greene Cooperative Extension to learn about how our changing climate will impact our gardening. Growing up on a family owned and operated fruit farm in Greendale, Mary Ann worked side by side with her family. Gardening is ingrained in her and has been something she always loves to do and talk about. Before moving back to Columbia County in 2005, she became a Master Gardener Volunteer in the 1990s when living in Dutchess County. She has a background in secondary science education and in business, is semi-retired, and only wishes there were two growing seasons here.This webinar is sponsored by the Columbia County Libraries Association. Come join fellow fly fishing enthusiasts to socialize while tying flies during the bimonthly drop-in program. Come for part of the time, or the entire 2.5 hours.   Newcomers to the sport also welcome to learn from more experienced tyers.
