Celebrate America’s 250th Celebrate America’s 250th with the St. Lawrence County Center for History & Culture! 1. Participate in our Space Exploration Crafting Station, highlighting the work of Dr. Sally K. Ride, the first American woman in space: Details: Imagine what it would be like to go on a space exploration like Dr. Sally Ride! At this crafting station, participants can fill out a "What If" badge that details their imagined space trip, create a "Become an Astronaut" photo (draw yourself as an astronaut or glue on a photo at home), build a rocket ship (pre-colored or color your own), and color space-themed coloring sheets. This program is designed for all ages, with adult assistance needed for younger participants. We recommend planning approximately 20 minutes for the activity. Take-home packets of all the materials are available for those who cannot stay for the program. 2. Participate in the “25 Objects for America’s 250th" Scavenger Hunt: Details: Explore different types of artifacts important to domestic, commercial, and military life from the late 18th to early 20th centuries in St. Lawrence County. Objects are located throughout the museum across two floors. Stairs and elevator access to the second floor are available. This program is designed for ages 6+ with adult assistance for younger participants. We recommend planning approximately 30 minutes for the activity. The Orchestra of Northern New York and The Remington Museum of Art Present: Frederic Remington's America ONNY celebrates our nation’s 250th anniversary with a unique and exciting collaboration with the Frederic Remington Art Museum, located in Ogdensburg, NY. The program has been curated through the lens of one of America’s most important artists, and reflects his family’s heritage, experiences growing up in Northern New York, his travels to Paris and Cuba, and his lifelong love of the cowboy culture of the American West. The concert will feature a veritable “Who’s Who” of American composers, including Aaron Copland, Richard Rodgers, George Gershwin, Scott Joplin, and Leroy Anderson, and will finish in traditional ONNY fashion with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and Sousa’s The Stars and Stripes Forever. In addition to our usual venues in Potsdam and Watertown, and in light of our collaboration with the Frederic Remington Art Museum, we’ll be adding a third performance in Ogdensburg. We hope you’ll join us for one – or more! – of these performances, which promise to be an unforgettable way to celebrate our nation’s birthday!
