About Us
The Mianus River Gorge is a private, not-for-profit nature preserve and conservation organization. We protect and manage over 1,000 acres of land in the Mianus Watershed. The lands we protect also provide habitat for hundreds of species of animals, plants, fungi, as well as important microbes in the soil and water. The actions and interactions of all of this life and the non-living environment lead to system processes that help filter pollution from water and air, produce fertile soil, sequester carbon, and maintain biodiversity. Gorge lands surround the Mianus River and its tributaries, which run directly into the Samuel J. Bargh Reservoir, and the ecosystem processes occurring here thus maintain safe drinking water for over 130,000 people in Greenwich, Stamford, CT; and Rye, Rye Brook, and Protchester, NY.
