Recycling is picked up curbside every Wednesday. Please place your recycling in containers with lids at the curb the night before or prior to 5:00AM. IMPORTANT REMINDER: DO NOT PLACE RECYCLABLES IN PLASTIC BAGS when setting them out for collection. Plastic bags can cause issues at the sorting facility. The bags often jam the equipment, lead to contamination, or result in entire loads being diverted to the landfill instead of being recycled which is a cost to the Borough. PLEASE PLACE CLEAN RECYCLABLES INSIDE A CLOSED RECYCLING CONTAINER! Acceptable Recyclable Items: paper, cardboard, plastic bottles/jugs, glass, tin and aluminum cans. Set the cans at the curb. This simple step helps the facility process materials efficiently and maximizes what actually gets recycled. Recycling can also be brought to the Recycling Center located at the DPW Yard on Smith Street on Wednesday’s and Saturday’s between the hours of 8:00AM – 4:00PM. The Board of Health, in conjunction with the Sussex County Health Department, provides an array of health promotion and disease prevention programs such as cancer screenings, blood pressure testing, and flu & pneumonia vaccinations. Environmental health services include inspection of restaurants and retail food vendors, inspection of public bathing facilities, free rabies immunization clinic, mosquito control and radon kits at a reasonable price. Animal control services are provided for stray dogs and cats, and other animal related concerns. The Board of Health meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:00PM at the Stanhope Municipal Building at 77 Main Street. (Meetings are not scheduled for the months of July and August.)

Garbage cans must be placed curbside the night before or prior to 5:00AM. The Borough contracts with Blue Diamond Disposal for weekly garbage and bulk item collection. Questions concerning your garbage collection should be directed to 973-347-0159 x-15. Garbage CollectionWHEN? Place your garbage cans at the curb the night before, but no later than 5am Thursday morning.HOW MUCH? Each household is allowed to place four 32-gallon garbage cans, with tight fitting lids, at the curb for weekly collection. Garbage bags are not considered containers. Storage of garbage cans is permitted in the rear or side yard and should be 10 feet from any property line. Bulk Item CollectionWHEN? One bulk item may be placed at the curb with your weekly garbage.WHAT? Bulk items may include furniture, mattress, carpets, children’s toys and even the kitchen sink. Please be mindful, Blue Diamond will not accept construction materials, electronic waste or hazardous waste. The Borough of Stanhope’s 42nd Annual Garage Sale will take place on June 13th.  This event is rain or shine. This year in order to register, please scan the QR Code provided here and follow the directions. The QR Code will open an app called “Add A Point” where you can enter your address, list the items you are selling and your location will be added to the interactive map. Once you enter your information you can click on the “Open Map” tab and you will see your address marked. Click on that and it will show your address and items you listed. When driving, please use caution and watch for pedestrians.

The Junior Fishing Contest will be held on Sunday, June 21st, from 9:00am to 11:00am at Lakeside Park (Route 183, Stanhope – next to the Enrite Gas Station). The fishing contest is open to boys and girls ages 3 to 13. There will be trophies and prizes awarded. This event is being co-sponsored by the Lake Musconetcong Regional Planning Board, the Lake Hopatcong Elks 782 & the NJ State Park Service.  Special thanks goes out to the sponsors: Ramsey Outdoor & the New Jersey Sportsman Federation. Everyone is invited to attend the Elks Father’s Day Pig Roast from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Elks Lodge #782,located at 201 Howard Blvd, Mount Arlington.Children under 5 are free. Our Seniors meet on the 4th Thursday of every month, 11am, at the American Legion Musconetcong Post 278 located at 119 Route 183 in Stanhope. (November’s meeting will be held on the 3rd Thursday of the month. The club does not meet in December or August.) Arrive at 11am for a social hour. The meeting begins at 12pm. Dues are $25 per year. Membership is open to any resident of Stanhope Borough and neighboring communities aged fifty years (50) and older.  A married couple of unequal age may join if one (1) is age fifty (50).  Annual dues are Twenty-five ($25) Dollars. This is a great way to meet new friends in a social setting! Coffee and cake is always served. Many activities are scheduled throughout the year.
