Recycling is picked up curbside every Wednesday. Please place your recycling in containers with lids at the curb the night before or prior to 5:00AM. IMPORTANT REMINDER: DO NOT PLACE RECYCLABLES IN PLASTIC BAGS when setting them out for collection. Plastic bags can cause issues at the sorting facility. The bags often jam the equipment, lead to contamination, or result in entire loads being diverted to the landfill instead of being recycled which is a cost to the Borough. PLEASE PLACE CLEAN RECYCLABLES INSIDE A CLOSED RECYCLING CONTAINER! Acceptable Recyclable Items: paper, cardboard, plastic bottles/jugs, glass, tin and aluminum cans. Set the cans at the curb. This simple step helps the facility process materials efficiently and maximizes what actually gets recycled. Recycling can also be brought to the Recycling Center located at the DPW Yard on Smith Street on Wednesday’s and Saturday’s between the hours of 8:00AM – 4:00PM. Garbage collection will begin at 5:00AM weekly Thursday mornings. Garbage cans must be placed curbside the night before or prior to 5:00AM. The Borough contracts with Blue Diamond Disposal for weekly garbage and bulk item collection. Questions concerning your garbage collection should be directed to 973-347-0159 x-15. Garbage CollectionWHEN? Place your garbage cans at the curb the night before, but no later than 5am Thursday morning.HOW MUCH? Each household is allowed to place four 32-gallon garbage cans, with tight fitting lids, at the curb for weekly collection. Garbage bags are not considered containers. Storage of garbage cans is permitted in the rear or side yard and should be 10 feet from any property line. Bulk Item CollectionWHEN? One bulk item may be placed at the curb with your weekly garbage.WHAT? Bulk items may include furniture, mattress, carpets, children’s toys and even the kitchen sink. Please be mindful, Blue Diamond will not accept construction materials, electronic waste or hazardous waste. The Shade Tree Commission is charged with maintaining a healthy and safe community forest resource. Good management of our community forest will improve our air and water quality, reduce energy costs, increase property values, improve the health of our residents, and beautifies our Borough. The Shade Tree Commission enforces the Borough’s tree removal and tree replacement Ordinances. Monthly meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 7pm at the Stanhope Municipal Building. (No meeting will be held in June or November.)

The Board of Health, in conjunction with the Sussex County Health Department, provides an array of health promotion and disease prevention programs such as cancer screenings, blood pressure testing, and flu & pneumonia vaccinations. Environmental health services include inspection of restaurants and retail food vendors, inspection of public bathing facilities, free rabies immunization clinic, mosquito control and radon kits at a reasonable price. Animal control services are provided for stray dogs and cats, and other animal related concerns. The Board of Health meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:00PM at the Stanhope Municipal Building at 77 Main Street. (Meetings are not scheduled for the months of July and August.)

The Stanhope Board of Health is sponsoring a Free Rabies Clinic to be held on Friday, April 10th, at the Stanhope Firehouse (28 Main Street) from 6:00 – 8:00PM.  All pets must be on a leash or in a pet carrier. Remember to license your pet no later than April 30th to avoid paying any late fees.  After April 30th a $5.00 per month, per pet, late fee will be added to the cost of the license.
