The Department of Parks and Recreation is excited to announce the return of “Movie Under the Stars”.  Similar to a drive-in movie, spectators are welcome to bring a lawn chair or blanket and view a movie under the stars.  The movie is projected on a large blown up screen, which will be set in the grass field in Glotzbach Park, located at 44 Park Ave. Equipped with a brand new sound system, residents will enjoy this movie loud and clear. The selection for 2024 is “INSIDE OUT 2”.  Two years after her move to San Francisco, 13-year-old Riley Andersen is entering high school. Her personified emotions—Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Anger—now oversee a newly formed element of Riley's mind called her "Sense of Self", which houses memories and feelings that shape Riley's beliefs. “Our goal is to create a family environment for residents to come together and spend quality time with one another,” stated Commissioner Tucci. Our youngsters learn about family values from the time they spend with their own.  Our  families are the single most important aspects of our lives but with the growing number of challenges we face when it comes to family time, whether it be our busy work schedules, increasing responsibilities or our children’s sport schedules, it is important we don’t forget to take time out to enjoy today. As recreation professionals, we play an important role in molding some of the values that can gradually deteriorate within busy family schedules. By implementing and centering our efforts on family recreation, we can be a tremendous positive force in our community.  This special event will take place on Friday, November 1, 2024 at the Department of Parks & Recreation, Glotzbach Park. The concessions will be available beginning at 6:00pm. Commissioner Mauro G. Tucci and the Department of Parks and Recreation are happy to announce the Princess Ball is back, and we invite youngsters to join us for a Magical evening filled with fairy tale delight.  The Princess Ball has been scheduled for Thursday, November 7, 2024 in the Recreation Department Gymnasium located at 44 Park Ave.  This event will run from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Be sure to come dressed as your favorite prince or princess. Fairy tales will come to life as children encounter characters from their favorite stories.  What better way to kick off the autumn season in our community than with a Cinderella Horse and Carriage Ride!  Feel like a real-life prince/princess as you take a magical ride with our special unicorn horse. “Imaginative play is an integral part of social and emotional development.  Children use imaginative play to work out everyday emotions and give us a small glimpse into the window of their world,” stated Commissioner Tucci.  This special event is a great way for youngsters to step into another character and experience something enchanted. Children will enjoy a special appearance by our prince and princesses from our favorite fairy tale stories as well as music, a whimsical princess meal, ice cream and more.  This event is open to boys and girls ages 12 and under.  This event is sure to be a royal hit!   Tickets are available at the Department of Parks and Recreation.  Two options are available for Nutley Residents only: Parent/child ticket is available for $35.00 (includes one parent/one child). A single $25.00 ticket is available for each additional child. Mayor John V. Kelly III and The Department of Public Affairs and Health invite you to join in on the Veterans Day Ruck March Event!   Commemoration 5K Event: This year we will be hosting two individual Ruck Marches which recognize the approximately 22 veterans a day, who take their own life. The suggested weight for a rucksack will be 22lbs or 22 canned goods to be donated to the Nutley Family Service Bureau Food Pantry immediately following the 5K ruck march. All are welcome to participate, any and all other weight, or no weight, is permissible as well. All participants are responsible for packing and bringing their own rucksack or backpack Elite Ruck March Saturday November 9th, 2024 A fast-paced and more intense march will start at 149 Chestnut Street at 9:00am. A light breakfast will be offered, with ruck march step off scheduled for 10:00am. Veterans Day Monday November 11, 2024 Immediately following our annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the WW2 Monument at 11:00am (to which all are invited), we will kick off a moderate paced Ruck March from the monument through the Nutley Park system to the Kingsland Manor and back for a 5K long march.
