RSVP on Eventbrite About This EventAs part of PES Summer Studio at Ironside Newark, Project for Empty Space is hosting a series of free, artist-led workshops led by past and present Artists-in-Residence. These hands-on programs invite participants of all ages to explore new materials, develop creative skills, and engage with contemporary artistic practices. Join artist Aimee Koran for Make Your Voice Visible, a family-friendly workshop where participants will design and create their own protest pins using collage materials, markers, stickers, and other colorful supplies. Together, families will explore issues they care about—from climate justice and education to kindness, equality, and community—and transform their ideas into wearable works of art. Inspired by Koran’s ongoing Maternal Order of Makers (M.O.Ms) project, the workshop highlights the long history of artists, caregivers, and activists using creative expression to advocate for change. Participants will learn how buttons, badges, and pins have been used throughout history to share messages, build solidarity, and make voices visible in public spaces. The workshop encourages young people to recognize that their ideas matter and that creative expression can be a powerful tool for civic engagement. Designed for tweens, teens, and the adults in their lives, this workshop offers an opportunity to create together, spark conversation, and discover how art can help build stronger communities. No experience is necessary, and all materials will be provided.
