MEMBERS ONLY: BIRDING PALMYRA COVE FIELD TRIP                                                                                          Sunday, September 15      8:30 to 10 AM                                                                                                      Join Michelle Horowitz for a morning of birding at Palmyra Cove, along the Delaware River. This time of year, anything can show up from warblers to shore birds. Bring water and binoculars, if you have them, and let us know ahead of time if you would like a loaner pair. The walk is through wooded and open areas on mostly compacted ground with occasional hills and roots. All skill levels are invited. Restrooms may not be available. Also,  Saturday, October 5        8:30 AM to 11:30 AM Sunday, November 3       12:30 to 3:30 PM (part of our Tree Planting Volunteer Day) The Rancocas Nature Center has organized three supervised stewardship conservation project days for fall 2024. Itâs a great way for scouts and other youth ages 13 to 17 to get out into nature and accumulate service hours. Parental consent is required, and parents are welcome to volunteer, too. Activities vary depending on the season, but often include removal of invasive species and mulching native plant enclosures and gardens. Volunteers should bring water, work gloves, and dress in work clothes, including appropriate footwear. Upon request, letters can be provided for youth needing proof of service for Scouts, 4-H, Honors Society, etc. Details and sign-up links can be found on the Rancocas Nature Center website at www.rancocasnaturecenter.org

As spring is springing, we are getting ready to start a new season of gardening, and would love to invite you to volunteer. Volunteers will meet Mondays from 10am-12pm at the Rancocas Nature Center. This is an opportunity for folks who love to garden or are new to gardening to work with a few of our local Master Gardeners. Participants will help keep our native plant gardens looking amazing and full of flowers and plants to attract and host wildlife. Whether your goal is to learn more about gardening and native plants, need help identifying weeds, want to meet some plant loving friends (gardeners are cool people... but I might be biased lol) or just to get outside and get a little exercise, we would love to have you join! You do not need to come every week, whenever you are available, we would appreciate the help. We have tools and gloves, but feel free to bring your own gloves if you would like. Hope to see you this gardening season! Ages 16+. Volunteers under 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian. No registration needed.

Letâs better understand and appreciate, and begin identifying our local pollinators, including native bees, butterflies, and other insects in this collaboration between Rancocas Nature Center staff and Burlington County Parks naturalist, Jen Bulava. Weâll begin late morning with Robin Sperryâs talk, âGetting to know our Native Bees and Pollinators.â Then Don Feeley, environmental educator and local beekeeper will lead a short, interactive discussion about honey bees followed by an iNaturalist tutorial. The afternoon will continue with Jen Bulavaâs presentation of âThe Secret World of Plants & Pollinators.â Then weâll head out to the gardens and grounds to teach you how to observe and document pollinators using the iNaturalist app on our cell phones (download ahead of time) as part of a citizen science project. Bring a digital camera, if you have one and a snack/lunch, if you choose. This event is rain or shineâthe outdoor portion may be rescheduled for a later date if necessary.
