The Rancocas Nature Preserve is beautiful throughout the winter months! Join us for this free family-friendly childrenâs program. Each session will start with a nature-themed storybook, then proceed with a hike on the trails to explore Rancocas during the colder months. This program is geared toward families with children ages 3 years and up. Babies in backpacks are welcome! Program is free (with a current Rancocas membership). Whitesbog in winter means tundra swans, waterfowl, and raptors. Join Rancocas Teacher Naturalist Mary Belko and Associate Naturalist Audrey Dorofy during this productive time and walk the sand trails around the ponds and through the woods in search of a variety of seasonal birds and interesting fauna and flora present on the site. Fridays, January 30, February 6, 13, 20, 27 10:30 AM to 12 PM  Parental participation required. Children ages 3 to 6 years old are invited to join Teacher Naturalist Jess Subramanya and learn about the variety of animals that live in our area and that we may see each day. Each session will focus on a different animal and will include related fun facts, natural materials and artifacts, themed games and crafts, and possibly a visit with one of our resident critters. Itâs a treat for children who love animals and a wonderful way to introduce our two, four, and no-legs creatures to those who are a bit wary and shy. These sessions will be a blend of indoor and outdoor activities depending on the dayâs weather. Cost (with a current Rancocas Nature Center Family Membership): $60/per child for five sessions, or $15/per class/per child. Register online at www.rancocasnaturecenter.org.

Join Linda Shockley, president of the Lawnside Historical Society,as she shares the history of Lawnside, New Jerseyâthe stateâs only incorporated African American municipality. The mission of the Historical Society is to promote and preserve the heritage of Lawnside, including its Peter Mott House. As the oldest dwelling in the borough, it was built around 1845 and was the home of Reverend Peter Mott, a âstationmasterâ on the Underground Railroad. The former residence now serves as an Underground Railroad museum. Linda's presentation includes details from several research projects and the boroughâs development from a 19th century settlement by free born, manumitted, and self-liberated peoples, to the present, as its 100th anniversary of incorporation approaches.The program is free for Rancocas Nature Center members; A donation is suggested for nonmembers.
