Each session will start with a nature-themed storybook, then proceed with a hike on the trails to explore Rancocas during the colder months. Fridays, December 5, 12, 19, January 9, 23 10:30 AM to 12 PM Parental participation required. Children ages 3 to 6 years old are invited to join Teacher Naturalist Jess Subramanya and explore the nature center grounds and create art projects with the natural materials they find. Each session will include an outdoor adventure/hike and an art-making opportunity indoors (unless the weather is mild, then we can create our art outside). If you are looking to instill a love of nature in your child and help them create with their hands, this class will do both. Cost (with a current Rancocas Nature Center Family Membership): $60/per child for five sessions, or $15/per class/per child. Register online at www.rancocasnaturecenter.org.

We do have Google Earth, but we can still get lost in the woods. For those interested in learning about multiple tools to use to help find your way, this beginner navigation class is for you! The two-hour session will review the different types of compasses and the basics of using them, but the bulk of the class will be spent learning to find your way on our practice courses by reading different types of maps, calculating paces, elevation, and the size of objects. Once you feel youâve got the hang of it, test your skills by doing a 1-mile Orienteering style course (which meets the Scouting Americaâs Scouts BSA 1st Class Rank Requirement). If time permits, the use of Smartphone GPS navigation will also be discussed.
