This class will include: simple instructions for getting started with a formal mindfulness practice, very gentle stretching & breath work, and an outdoor contemplative garden walk. This is a practice of slowing down, cultivating quiet and paying attention to our senses. All levels are welcome. No experience needed. Winter session will be held indoors, with a short walk outdoors (weather permitting). Feb 15: Noah Stevens, viola, is in demand as a violist. Recent engagements include his debut performance of Telemann’s viola concerto, a collaboration with the Attacca String Quartet, and playing electric viola with several New Jersey bands. His playing has been broadcast on EWTN, an international television network with over 400 million viewers.  He serves as principal viola for various ensembles, most notably the NYC Project Orchestra and the underStaffed Chamber Orchestra.  He has composed music for film and dance, and his concert music has been read by critically acclaimed ensembles like Time for Three and the Cavani String Quartet. Update: all reserved seats have been taken. When people do not attend or cancel their seats, unclaimed seats will be available at the start of the concert. There is no waitlist. Garden Inspirations: Wonders of Winter Plein Air Watercolor Class with Sharon Pitts Tuesdays, February 17, 24, March 3, 10, 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM Registration will open on Tuesday, January 6. The focus of our winter series will be the serenity and beauty of winter.  From the white snow intermingled with dark branches to the subtle colors of dried leaves and surprises of berries, the garden is a treasure of beauty in winter. Each class includes demonstrations and personal attention for each student. Some watercolor experience is desirable. We will work in Van Vleck’s Raymond Family Education Center. A supply list will be sent after registration. Fee:  4-class Series: $200 Members / $225 General Public  Pre-Registration is required.  There are no drop-ins for this class. Deadline to register is Monday, February 16.

Tales on the Trails Wednesdays, 1:00 PM -1:45 PM Age: Preschool 3-5 year olds February 18 – Birds of Winter (rescheduled from Feb. 4 due to frigid weather) Join us to learn about our feathered friends of winter at February’s Tales on the Trails class. Discover the wonders of the outdoor world with your little one.  This program begins in the gardens of Van Vleck with a story, then continues with a walk and concludes with a simple craft or activity.  All programs focus on the theme listed.  A parent or caregiver must accompany each child.  Programs will be held indoors and outdoors, weather permitting. Sponsored by The Albert Payson Terhune Foundation  Fee: $10/class per child for Members / $15/class per child for General Public Registration required by 1 day prior to each class   Upcoming Classes March 11th – Seed Starting Spring is right around the corner, which means it’s time to start thinking about what to plant in your garden.    April 8th – Beauty of Trees April’s Tales on the Trails class is all about trees.
