Get ready to be serenaded by the enchanting sounds of the Manhattan String Quartet Ensemble in a cozy setting! Hailed by the Boston Globe as “a national treasure,” the MANHATTAN STRING QUARTET is celebrating its 47th season and is composed of Curtis Macomber (violin), Anna Lim (violin), Marka Gustavsson (viola), and Chris Finckel (cello). December 14, 2025 – Marrazza-Cart Duo HOPE WILL NEVER BE SILENT Robert Cart, flutist, and Regina DiMedio-Marrazza, piano, are a chamber ensemble, renowned forpassionate and musically stirring performances throughout the United States, including concerts at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Philadelphia Ethical Society, the Philadelphia International Music Festival, the National Flute Association, and several colleges and universities. The duo has premiered new works by Jennifer Higdon and Gary Schocker. Advocates of new music, they have also premiered new works by Louis Barroso, Jennifer Higdon, and Gary Schocker. They have graced our stage at Van Vleck House many times and are a series favorite with concert-goers. All concerts begin at 2PM. Seats are limited and reservations are recommended. If registered guests do not attend, those seats will be open to visitors right before the start of the concert. Additional series concerts may be scheduled as dates permit.

Monday Morning Yoga – HYBRID in-person / virtual Late Fall Session: November 3 – December 15, 9:30 – 10:45 AM Instructor: Jennifer Hondru-Celestin Join our welcoming community for a meditative yoga flow practice in the Van Vleck living room overlooking the charming courtyard gardens. All levels of yoga experience are welcome in this dynamic, inclusive class. Our teacher Jennifer Hondru-Celestin takes inspiration from the natural beauty around us to flow with the seasons, blending mindful movement, breath, meditation, and a good dose of humor and fun. This class welcomes all levels from beginner to experienced yogis. Masks are optional. Bring your own yoga mat and props. Single class Fee: $23 Members / $28  General Public Early Fall Series (6 classes): $120 Members/ $150 General Public Late Fall Series (7 classes): $140 Members/ $175 General Public Pre Registration is required the Friday prior to the class. Getting Ready for Winter December 17, 1:00 PM – 1:45 PM Age: Preschool 3-5 year olds How do animals get ready for the winter? What changes in the gardens do we see in the winter time? Join us for Tales on the Trails, as we discover how the gardens and animals adjust to this chilly, snowy season.  This program begins in the gardens of Van Vleck with a story, then continues with a walk and concludes with a simple craft or activity.  All programs focus on the theme listed.  A parent or caregiver must accompany each child.  Programs will be held outdoors, weather permitting.  Fee: $10/class per child for Members / $15/class per child for General Public Registration required by 1 day prior to each class. Welshons (One Soul, One Love, One Heart, When Prayers Aren’t Answered and Awakening From Grief) for a series of evening meditation classes in the comfort of your own home via Zoom. These classes will focus on specific practices for working with fear and anxiety.  Participants will learn and practice different forms of mindfulness meditation in each session and will have the opportunity to participate in discussions of Ramananda’s three critically acclaimed books. Frank Gulino composer – trombone concerto, Brittany Lasch, trombonist, Thomas Weaver, pianist This concert will feature music by composer Frank Gulino and composer-pianist Thomas Weaver,joined by trombonist Dr. Brittany Lasch of Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.Gulino, a returning artist whose violin sonata Garden States received its premiere at Van Vleck last March, will present several works for trombone and piano, including his Trombone Sonata No. 1 (“The Journey”), first premiered in 2019 by Philadelphia Orchestra co-principal trombonist Matt Vaughn. He will collaborate with Weaver at the piano and with Lasch as soloist. The program will also include the New Jersey premieres of Gulino’s SoutheasternRhapsody and Weaver’s Midnight Embers, along with solo piano works by eachcomposer. Frank Gulino is among the most in-demand writers of chamber music and recital literature for brass instruments. His works have been commissioned, performed, and recorded by some of the world’s foremost brass musicians and orchestras. His work, The Journey, was premiered by the US Army Band at the 2025 Capital Fourth of July celebration. His compositions have been performed by the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and in other prestigious orchestras across the US as well as in South America and Europe. As a trombonist, Frank has appeared at Carnegie Hall, the Music Center at Strathmore, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), and the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, home of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. January 24th – Animal Tracks & Signs 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM Footprints in the snow, a nest resting on a tree branch, and a feather found on a hiking trail are all signs that an animal may be nearby. Join us for our Outdoor Adventures program to learn about animal signs, what to look for and what it tells us about the environment. Compare and contrast animal prints and go on scavenger hunt to look for animal signs around the gardens. Join us in the gardens as you and your family explore and learn about the outdoor world through crafts, scavenger hunts, activity sheets and educational displays. Each program will focus on a specific theme, and our Van Vleck Education team will guide your family through this interactive learning experience. This program is entirely outdoors, weather dependent. Registration is required and includes everything you need to participate in the program. Designed for children ages 4 -11 but all are welcome. Fee: FREE for Members of Van Vleck $15 per family  for  General Public Registration required by 1 day prior to each class Sponsored by   Upcoming Outdoor Adventures: February 21st – Nocturnal Animals Let’s learn about Nocturnal Animals at this month’s Outdoor Adventures. Discover why some animals sleep during the day and what they do at night, through crafts, scavenger hunts, and other family fun activities.    March 21st – Spring has Sprung Join us as we celebrate the spring equinox at our March Outdoor Adventures program. Together we will explore the changes this season brings, what plants are starting to bloom in the gardens, and what wildlife we find in the springtime.     April 11th – Arbor Day Everyday Arbor Day is a day to reflect on the importance of trees in our environment. We have an abundance of beautiful trees throughout the gardens. At April’s Outdoor Adventures, learn more about our trees as we explore their role in our environment, their unique leaf shapes, and what animals use trees as their homes.    May 16th – Honeybees & Hummingbirds What do bees and hummingbirds have in common? They fly and they are pollinators! Join us to learn about your local pollinators, how they make a positive impact on our environment, and what we can do to help them on their mission.    June 6th – Insect Safari  You can find many different insects buzzing, wiggling, and crawling around the gardens. Join us for an Insect Safari at this month’s Outdoor Adventures. Create a bug inspired craft, take a hike looking for insects, and learn about the important roles insects play in the garden.
