The Gibson Center has received a grant from Digitunity for digital literacy training for older adults. The curriculum has been developed by AT&T and will cover topics such as video conferencing (zoom), staying safe on the internet, basic word processing, and how to get the most out of your smart phone. Whatever their computer questions are, participants will be able to get them answered. The classes will take place at the Jackson Public Library (JPL). There is no residency requirement to participate in the program.  Class size will be limited to ten people. JPL has six devices for public use so some participants will need to bring their own devices.  Gibson Center Executive Director David Smolen will be the instructor.  In his 26-year career as a librarian he answered countless computer questions from members of the public.  Smolen said, “helping older adults with their computer questions is a core service of the Gibson Center and perfectly aligns with our mission, which is to offer programs and services that enable seniors in the MWV to live independently and actively, with purpose and dignity. We are grateful to our colleagues at the Jackson Public Library, who are working with us on this project.”  JPL Director Meg Murphy said, “Partnering with non-profit organization who support our community, such as the Gibson Center, is an important component of our recently adopted strategic plan. We welcome Gibson Center staff and participants to our beautiful facility.”  The dates for the classes are January 8th, 22ndand February 12th, 19th, and 26th. All classes are from 1-2PM. Participants are welcome to have lunch at the Gibson Center on those days and make the trip up to JPL on the Gibson Center Bus, which will depart from the Gibson Center at 12:30.  For more information or to sign up for the class, call the Gibson Center at 603-356-3231 or email David Smolen at [email protected].

Join Petunia, Marigold, and Meredith for Storytime at 11am! There will be stories, songs, action rhymes, and plenty of fun. This program is open to the public and is best suited for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers.

Knitting in Knots?

Bring your knitting or any portable needling project you may have to the library.  All levels are welcome.

Join us for an evening of chamber music to include Trio Sonata in E Minor, Op 1 by Antonio Vivaldi; New Year's Greetings for Three by Elaine Fine; and Saturday Night Waltz by Aaron Copeland. The Mountain Top Chamber Players meet for class on Monday nights and welcome new members. They also offer private lessons and classes for students and adults. About a third of their registration is adults who are returning to their instruments or polishing their skills.
