Families register for one Gingerbread House kit to decorate. Kits include the gingerbread house, icing and candy decorations. We encourage you to bring some of your own decorations to enhance your gingerbread house design - they must all be edible. Once the houses are complete we ask that they be submitted in the Gingerbread House Competition. They will be held here in the library until the end of the week of December 8 - 13 when patrons will be voting on their favorites. Contest winners are announced on December 15th at which time your may come in that week to pick up your family gingerbread house. Registration is required - we ask one adult register for one house. There will be an additional question of how many in your family will be attending. Put on your favorite holiday pajamas and head on over to the Ramsdell Station (at the ECLC) for a magical Polar Express event! Barrington families will enjoy holiday music as you visit different train stops to make a craft, enter raffles, and pick up a variety of treats from Santa's Elves. Santa will be waiting to take a photo with your child(ren)! THIS IS THE FIRST TIME SLOT. If this time slot fills up, check out the SECOND or THIRD times to register. Make sure you register the number of children that will be coming. We ask that Barrington families register for one of the three half-hour time slots with your children's names as the attendees - available slots for 85 children per time slot. This is the FIRST HALF-HOUR time slot from 10:00-10:30 AM and you must arrive during your reserved time. If you cannot attend, please cancel your registration online or call the library to do so at (603) 664-9715. The Polar Express event will be held in the ECLC Multipurpose Room. Parking will be in the ECLC parking lot and on the other side of the playground. The Barrington Public Library is hosting an exhibition entitled “Traditions & Transitions Revisited.” It features portraits made in 1995 as part of a community oral history project celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Barrington Public Library. Twenty-five Barrington residents were interviewed by a group of volunteers. Interviews were transcribed and edited, then published, along with these photographs, in a book called Traditions & Transitions. The project’s photographer, Ron St. Jean, says, “I photographed the interviewees using medium format film. Most of the portraits in this show are the original prints I made in my home darkroom to be reproduced in the book. To replace three photographs that I was unable to locate, I scanned the negatives and made digital prints. I’m proud to have been a part of this group of volunteers in 1995, and I want people to know that about 30 other people were involved in the project as interviewers, transcribers, and editors.” There will be an informal “meet and greet” with Ron St. Jean on Saturday December 6 at the library from 10:00 am to noon. The public is invited, and we hope others involved in the project can participate. The exhibition runs through December.
