 Love winning Bingo? Love learning about birds? Love talking to fellow birders? If you said yes toany of these, our Birding Drag Bingo Fundraiser sounds like the perfect night for you! Join theNorthwest Nevada Bird Alliance at the Emerson for a night of Bingo led by local Reno DragQueens. Five rounds of Bingo will be played starting at 7pm. To participate, we ask for a $10donation at the door and in return you will get five Bingo cards. Between each round, weâll sharesome fun bird facts and at the end of each round there will be prize giveaways. 100% ofdonations given at the door go directly to the Northwest Nevada Bird Alliance, so come playsome Bingo with us! No RSVP needed!  The Emerson holds Drag Bingo Fundraisers every second Thursday evening of the month togive back to the community. They have raised over $40,000 for charities, organizations, andnonprofits all throughout Northern Nevada. Please join the Northwest Nevada Bird Alliance for a community bird walk at Damonte Ranch on Valentine's Day during the Great Backyard Bird Count! Binoculars will be provided. We will meet at Damonte Ranch Park and walk around the wetlands, take the tunnel under Veterans Parkway, and check out the Damonte Ranch pond. We should see a variety of wetland birds and waterfowl, along with songbirds and raptors. This walk is open to people of all identities and all levels of birding (beginner, advanced etc.). Specifically, this walk welcomes members of the LGBTQIA+ community, allies, and family members who want to enjoy the outdoors together. We recognize that members of the LGBTQIA+ community have been historically excluded and underrepresented in birding and the outdoors. We want to change this and create a welcoming place where people of all identities can feel they belong.  Along the walk, we will spend time picking up trash along the trails and parking lot. Please bring gloves if you have them. Trash bags will be provided. Date/Time: Monday Feb 16, 3p to ~5p Leader: Amanda Seymour The variety of trees, lakes, marshes, grass and urban environments at Damonte Wetlands are home to many different types of birds! We'll be doing a 3 mile loop on a flat, paved path. We should expect to see Red-tailed Hawks, Cooper's Hawks, Northern Harriers, American Kestrels, and maybe a Bald Eagle or 2! In the reeds we may see Marsh Wrens, Red-winged Blackbirds, and Song Sparrows. White-crowned Sparrows and Say's Phoebes also like to hang out nearby. On the ground we may see California Quail, Killdeer, Western Meadowlarks, Starlings, Brewer's Blackbirds and Great-tailed Grackles. The shallow water attracts Great Blue Herons and Great Egrets. At the lakes we might see Green-winged Teal, Common Mergansers, Mallards, Canada Geese, American Coots, Tundra Swans, California Gulls, Greater Yellowlegs and more. In the trees we may see woodpeckers and common songbirds. Registration is not yet available. Members will receive notice of field trip registration via email.

Learn more about these native Great Basin insects and the many Nevada birds that rely on their swarms.  Presented by Sharon Selvaggio with the Xerces Society About Sharon:  Tiny, inconspicuous and unappreciated species hold our world together. On their behalf, Sharon Selvaggio, a staff member in The Xerces Societyâs Pesticide Program, works to help people recognize the risks of pesticides and move away from pesticide reliance toward more prevention-based pest management.  Sharon is a former biologist and refuge manager with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and prior to Xerces, worked for several years with Northwest Center for Alternatives to Pesticides.  Registration for this event is not open at this time.
