Date/Time: Friday JAN 2, 8a ~3hrs Leader: Jeff Bleam Description: This pond leads to a marsh area and features Ducks, Teal, Mergansers, Goldeneye, and Scaup with possible Snow Geese or a Tundra Swan.  There may be Wading birds like Heron and Egrets, Gulls on the pond, and Raptors like Red-tailed, Harrier with a possibility of  a Bald Eagle.  Along the marsh and willows we should encounter Wrens, Icterids, and maybe Rail, Sora, and Snipe. Registration is not yet available. Members will receive notice of field trip registration via email.

Whatâs that duck that looks like it has spiky red hair? Who is that big bird perching stock-still on a rock with its wings spread out? Whatâs that tiny duck that just dove beneath the surface of the water? Explore Fishermanâs Park #1 at our upcoming events and see if you can spot mergansers, double-crested cormorants, buffleheads, red-tailed hawks, and more! Get to know your community while learning about the birds and wildlife that call our neighborhood parks home â and why they matter. On October 25th and January 10th, One Truckee River and Northwest Nevada Bird Alliance members will lead us along the Truckee River, helping us spot and identify the birds and other animals that depend on our watershed. The Northwest Nevada Bird Alliance (NNBA), formerly the Lahontan Audubon Society, is a nonprofit focused on educating the public about native Nevada birds and conserving the remaining bird habitat in northwestern Nevada. Their goal is to create a welcoming birding community where people of all backgrounds can feel a sense of belonging. Our January 10 walk will be led by Jaida Marinas, who studied biology and analytical chemistry at UNR and works in environmental restoration and conservation. Register Here to Reserve Your Spot

Date/Time: Friday JAN 16, 8a to ~3hrs Leader: Jeff Bleam Description: We will walk along the Tahoe-Pyramid Bikeway that runs through the park and along the Truckee River.  There are many Cottonwoods, which attract Magpies, Jays with the river and banks have a nice mix of Ducks, Common and Barrowâs Goldeneye and Mergansers.  There is a good chance of seeing Sparrows, Chickadees, Wrens, Woodpeckers, Raptors even a Golden or Bald Eagle and Dippers.  We may see Great Horned Owl, Thrush, and Bluebirds as well. Registration is not yet available. Members will receive notice of field trip registration via email.

When: Friday JAN 30, 8a to ~2hrs Leader: Jeff Bleam Description: This is an easy walk along the Slough formed by Dry Creek.  We will head from the Park to the Slough where we could find Geese like Snow, White-fronted, and of course Canada, Heron, Egrets, Rail, Sora, plenty of close views of Ducks, Teal, and Mergansers.  Along the banks we could find Yellowlegs, Snipe, Hawks, Eagles, Blackbirds, Sparrows, and Finch.
