UPCOMING EVENTS Advocating for Pride Thursday, April 15 | 6:30pm REGISTER: https://10379a.blackbaudhosting.com/10379a/Gateway-to-Pride-Throwback-Chat Join a panel of representatives from local advocacy groups and LGBTQIA-friendly organizations to learn about their work as they discuss the challenges and successes of advocating for LGBTQIA+ communities in the St. Louis region. See STL: LGBTQIA+ History of the Central West End These programs take place in person. For most of the 20th century, St. Louis’s Central West End was a hub of LGBTQIA+ community life and political activism. This tour will explore some of the places that were instrumental in shaping the neighborhood’s fascinating history, including the locations of fabulous nightclubs and progressive churches, the home of the region’s first gay community center, and the starting point of St. Louis’s first Pride march. Along the way we’ll explain how St. Louis’s LGBTQIA+ citizens have been a part of the growth, decline, and renewal of neighborhoods throughout the city. DETAILS See STL walking tours are 2 hours in length and are wheelchair accessible. Tour starting/ending points are included in your booking info. At the direction of the Department of Health for the City of St. Louis, protective face coverings are required for guests age 9 and up. Guests will also be asked to practice social distancing during the tour. Gateway to Pride Throwback Chats: Coffee Cartel Friday, May 14 | 12:00pm Gateway to Pride Throwback Chats offer an opportunity to learn and reminisce about more recent St. Louis LGBTQIA+ history in an intimate setting. Each program features a presentation about a significant place or moment, followed by an open conversation where participants can ask questions and share stories. Join Dennis Gorg, owner of the Central West End’s Coffee Cartel, for a look back at the coffee shop that was a mainstay of St. Louis’s LGBTQIA+ communities for 22 years. Harriet Hosmer with Amanda Clark Tuesday, June 15 | 11am JOIN THROUGH ZOOM: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87670428331 A woman whom Elizabeth Barrett Browning called “a perfectly emancipated female,” the sculptor Harriet Hosmer defied just about every gender, social, and cultural norm of her time.
