Area residents interested in learning the fundamentals of metal fabrication are invited to attend a two-night Beginner MIG Welding Program hosted by University of Missouri Extension. The course will be taught by Michael Graham, MU Extension Livestock Specialist, and will take place Tuesday and Wednesday, December 9th & 10th, from 6:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The program will be held at the Fredericktown Ag. Education Building, located behind Fredericktown High School at 805 E. Highway 72, Fredericktown, MO 63645. This hands-on course is designed for beginners with little to no welding experience and focuses on the safe and effective use of MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding using a wire welder. Participants will receive both classroom instruction and practical shop experience, with approximately 20% of time spent on theory and 80% of time dedicated to hands-on welding practice. Course Topics Include: Welding safety procedures Types of shielding gases used to filter impurities Proper operation of a wire welder Techniques for running beads and fusing metal Required Participant Attire: Clothing made of natural fibers (cotton or wool) Long-sleeve shirt and long pants to cover all exposed skin Close-toed shoes, preferably leather boots The cost to attend is $50 per participant, which includes both instructional and shop components. The University of Missouri Extension will offer two upcoming virtual educational sessions titled “The Brain and the Disease of Addiction: Understanding How Substances Impact the Brain.” These free, introductory trainings will be facilitated by Emily Poncher, Community Health Specialist – East Central. These short, 45-minute sessions are designed to fit easily into the workday and provide an accessible overview of how addiction affects the brain, what risk factors increase vulnerability, and how recovery is possible. The training also works to reduce stigma and replace it with understanding and hope for healing. No prior knowledge is required to participate. Session Options: Wednesday, December 3rd | 12:00–12:45 p.m. (lunch-hour session) Wednesday, December 10th | 5:00–5:45 p.m. (after-work session) These sessions are ideal for community members, civic leaders, educators, service providers, and anyone interested in gaining a better understanding of substance use disorder and recovery. The Park Hills - Leadington Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce the First State Community Bank Christmas Parade, set to take place on Saturday, December 13, 2025. Date and Time: Saturday, December 13, 2025 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. - Photos with Santa at No. 9 Coffee Co. 4:00 p.m. - Musical Presentation by the Rebel Clef Honor Choir from West Elementary (Grades 4-5) at Leadington Plaza (Near No. 9 Coffee) 4:30 p.m. - Leadington Tree Lighting 5:00 p.m. - Musical Presentation by the Central Elementary Honors Choir (Grades K-2) at the Downtown Stage in Park Hills 6:00 p.m. - Parade line-up (All entries must be in place) 6:30 p.m. - Parade begins 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. - Photos with Santa resume on the Patio at Four Towns Brewing Company Theme: "Christmas Movies" This year, we’re bringing the magic of the big screen to Main Street! Floats should be decorated to celebrate beloved holiday films—from timeless classics like It’s a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story to modern favorites like Elf, The Polar Express, or The Grinch. Participants are encouraged to: Recreate iconic scenes or characters from their chosen movie. Use props, lights, costumes, and music or soundtracks to bring the story to life. Incorporate holiday colors, festive decorations, and creative details that make your float instantly recognizable as your chosen Christmas film. Add people in costume or themed attire to make your float interactive and full of cheer! Route The parade will follow the traditional Homecoming Parade Route, starting at St. Francois Avenue, proceeding to West Main Street, then to Rinke Street, and concluding at the High School via Stone Street. Participants will line up along Westwind and Davis Court. Special Attractions Santa Claus will be available for photos and visits with children before and after the parade. Before he is at Leadington Plaza, and after, you'll find him on the patio next to Four Towns Brewing Co. Participation and Prizes There is no entry fee to participate in the parade. Float prizes include: First Place: $200 cash, a collectible snow globe (valued at $150). Second Place: $150 cash Third Place: $100 cash Winners will be announced to the media immediately following the parade, with prizes awarded on Monday, December 15, 2025. OFFICIAL PARADE RULES & GUIDELINES There is NO ENTRY FEE required for participation. The deadline for entry is Tuesday, December 9, 2025. All participants must be in line no later than 6:00 p.m. at their designated location. Parade officials will designate Santa and Mrs. Claus.  NO OTHER LIVING SANTA OR MRS. CLAUS IS PERMITTED. This will be an evening parade; therefore, entrants are encouraged (but not required) to create lighted entries. Absolutely NO LOUD VEHICLES will be permitted. Those arriving for lineup in excessively loud vehicles may be ineligible to participate. Emergency vehicles may use lights but NO SIRENS. All entries using a generator as a power source are required to carry a fire extinguisher. Music is encouraged along the parade route.  Please keep the volume at a reasonable level.  Bands are an exception. Animals participating in the parade must be controlled by their handlers at all times, and handlers must come prepared to clean up after their animals.  For those placed within the middle of the parade line-up, a cleanup person must follow behind the animals, and all waste must be removed from the streets immediately so that others do not have to walk in or around it. Changes in the parade line-up the day of the parade will be at the sole discretion of the parade officials. For judging purposes, please be sure your business/organization name is displayed clearly on the DRIVER’S SIDE of your entry. Judges will be situated in front of the ASHLER BANQUET HALL. Please be sure to pause for judging and photos at that location. Prizes will be awarded to the top three best-decorated entries.  Prizes will include: 1st Place - A Collectible Snow Globe, $200 Cash.  2nd Place - $150 Cash.  3rd Place - $100.  Entries are judged on the following criteria: Christmas Movies, Creativeness, and Effort.  Winners will be announced to the media immediately following the parade. Prizes will be awarded on Monday, December 15, 2025. The photos will be for use in the Daily Journal and on the Chamber’s website and social media sites.  All entries must be approved by the Christmas Parade Committee and/or Park Hills - Leadington Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
