To recognize the National School Lunch Program serving nearly 30 million children each day St. Cloud Area School District will celebrate National School Lunch Week October 12-14 2020. The theme &ldquo Now Playing: School Lunch!&rdquo puts the spotlight on the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child's life.National School Lunch Week will highlight the nutritious foods available daily at St. Cloud Area Schools. Special NSLW activity sheets will be available at all elementary kitchens for student to enjoy.&ldquo School lunches offer students fruits and vegetables whole grains and milk and meet federal nutrition standards limiting fat calories and sodium &rdquo said Joe Happe - Supervisor of Food and Nutrition at ISD 742. &ldquo National School Lunch Week helps us celebrate with parents and students about all the wonderful benefits of our lunch program.&rdquo This year ISD 742 is focusing on offering student more fresh fruits and vegetables. Concentrating on locally grown fruits and vegetables also helps the area's economy. Happe has committed to partnering with local farmers and orchards to supply our schools best locally grown apples and a wide variety of locally grown vegetables.The federally funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) has been fueling students for success for more than 70 years. The USDA recently announced flexibilities in the NSLP which allows schools to offer FREE breakfast and lunch to all k-12 students for a limited time regardless of financial eligibility. This program is set to expire 12/31/2020 or when the federal funding is depleted.The &ldquo Now Playing School Lunch&rdquo campaign is made possible by the nonprofit School Nutrition Association. Parents and students can follow the fun using the hashtags #NSLW2020 #NowPlayingSchoolLunch and #SchoolLunch.
