Monticello School District Updates with Sarah Welk, Magic Closet  The Monticello Schools counseling staff plays a vital role in supporting students, families, and educators throughout the district. They provide a wide range of services, including social, emotional, and behavioral support; individual and group counseling; crisis intervention; and academic planning through programs like 504 Plans, IEPs, and college/career preparation. Counselors and social workers serve as consistent support figures, offering assistance with attendance and truancy, referrals to external services, and coordination with outside agencies. They also collaborate with parents, guardians, and staff through meetings, consultations, and classroom presentations to address student needs. Additionally, the counseling team fosters community partnerships with organizations like United Way, Central MN Mental Health, local businesses, and mental health agencies to enhance student resources.   One unique program they oversee is the "Magic Closet," a district-wide initiative providing basic necessities to students in need. Accessible in all seven buildings and open to all 4,300 district students through staff referrals, the Magic Closet supplies essential items such as school supplies, hygiene products, clothing, winter gear, food, and gift cards. This program relies on community donations to ensure that every student has what they need to thrive in school. Event Details: Exclusive Chamber Member Event: Teams of four must include at least one Monticello Chamber member. What’s Included: A 275-piece puzzle, a pizza to share, and a pitcher of your favorite beverage for every team. Cost: $80 per team ($20 per person). Flying solo? No worries! Register individually, and we’ll match you with a team. Not a puzzler? Come and cheer on your colleagues while enjoying fantastic networking—attendance is FREE for spectators! Space is limited, so sign up early! Event Agenda: 4:30 - 5:15 PM: Kick things off with casual networking! Mingle with fellow Chamber members, grab a drink, and get into the spirit of fun. 5:15 - 5:30 PM: Let the games begin! We’ll go over the rules and set the stage for some friendly puzzle rivalry. 5:30 PM: The competition is on! Teams race against the clock (and each other!) to complete their puzzles. Important Rules & Guidelines: Keep the puzzle you complete as a keepsake. Puzzles are distributed at check-in and opened at the same time. Use only your hands—no tools, cutting devices, or phones allowed (sorting containers are permitted but not provided). Judges will monitor progress. When your team is close to finishing, raise your hand to record your time. If a judge is unavailable, self-record your finish time on the provided timecard.
