Highlights include a visit to Camp Norge, Frank Tortorich’s presentation on Snowshoe Thompson, and Liese Greensfelder sharing stories from The Accidental Shepherd. Join us for the 2026 District Six Convention, a celebration of Norwegian heritage, culture, and community. This year’s gathering includes a special excursion to Camp Norge, offering attendees a chance to experience one of our most treasured cultural sites in the Sierra Nevada. Enjoy engaging programs from featured speakers, including Frank Tortorich’s presentation on the legendary Snowshoe Thompson and Liese Greensfelder, who will share stories from her book The Accidental Shepherd: How a California Girl Rescued an Ancient Farm in Norway. The convention will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Sacramento and will feature a vibrant lineup of activities, including a Norwegian folk dance performance by Language and Heritage Camp participants and a folk art exhibition showcasing the talents of our community. The 2026 convention is being hosted by the lodges of District 1.    We are planning a variety of cultural activities for our delegates and guests.  We have also timed the convention to tie into the Willmar Fests, to make this a family activity for all ages. We invite you to join us in learning more about our cultural connections, to have your voice heard at the District convention / business meeting, and then take the opportunity to attend the variety of activities that Willmar will be hosting in the area.  While information for the 2026 Willmar Fests is not yet available, the 2025 information can be found at https://willmarfests.com/

Trollfjell Folkehøgskule | Open to youth ages 14 to 17 years old Sons of Norway District Six Language and Heritage Camps offer youth a memorable opportunity to deepen their connection to Scandinavian culture while enjoying a classic summer camp experience. Trollfjell Folkehøgskule students spend their days swimming, hiking, and playing field games—while also exploring their heritage through daily Norwegian language lessons, rosemaling, axe throwing, folk dancing, and Scandinavian cooking. In addition, teen campers participate in a meaningful service project that supports Camp Norge, giving back to the camp community while developing leadership and teamwork skills. The Early Bird registration rate of $900 ends April 1, and registration closes May 31. Space is limited, so families are encouraged to register early.

The Sloopers and Greeting the Restauration with Gary Swain and Dana Kelly at Sons of Norway Mandt Lodge, 317 South Page Street, Stoughtonon Wednesday, July 8, 2026, 7:00 PM The first organized group of Norwegian immigrants arrived in New York on October 9, 1825. In 2025, a replica of that journey was undertaken to commemorate the 200th anniversary. Lodge members Dana Kelly & Gary Swain were in New York to greet the replica last fall. They will share some history of the original voyage and some of their experiences greeting the ship in 2025. Dana Kelly and Gary Swain are active in the Norwegian-American community. Both lifelong residents of the area, they serve on the board of the Koshkonong Prairie Historical Society and are both members of Mandt Lodge, Vesterheim, and several bygdelags. Dana has a degree in Scandinavian Studies from UW-Madison and serves as Executive Director of the Norwegian American Genealogical Center in Madison. Refreshments will be served! Camp Trollfjell | Open to campers 8 to 13 years old Sons of Norway District Six Language and Heritage Camps offer youth a memorable opportunity to deepen their connection to Scandinavian culture while enjoying a classic summer camp experience. At Camp Trollfjell, campers spend their days swimming, hiking, and playing field games—while also exploring their heritage through daily Norwegian language lessons, rosemaling, axe throwing, folk dancing, and Scandinavian cooking. Guided by dedicated counselors and cultural instructors, campers build friendships, confidence, and a stronger sense of identity in a supportive, high-energy environment.
